Never...barrel work, stock work & replacement, choke tube(ugh), trigger work, evaluation & repair.

Thinking back...I only had a local gunsmith cerakote a barrel and Novak work on a handgun....no problems there either.

I have mailed away guns for work on them 6-8 times. Never a problem. And I often fly with my shotguns. 20-25 times. Never a problem. Desk agents were good. They follow the procedures and sometimes ask for help. Just be patient. I fly in and out of California and have always had no trouble.

But baggage handlers can be hard on gun cases. I use Negrini and an old Americase. They are both built well and have survived rough treatment (tossed from plane over the baggage cart onto the tarmac) with no damage other than an exterior road rash.

I have done it a bunch, and I haven't had any problems. My advice is to break the gun into two pieces and overpack that thing in an overbuilt box. I use thin plywood inside the ends of the box to keep the barrels from having any chance to pierce the package. When packed properly, the box should be tight to close, and when shaken, nothing inside should move or shift.

I did have a problem once with a gun purchase, and it was packed very poorly and shipped in one piece. It arrived with a shattered stock. It was heartbreaking.

Just shipped an SX4 back to Winchester/Browning repair center last week. Shipped in original bx. wrapped in brown construction paper. Shipped thru Fed Ex. with No issues. With $800 insurance cost was $34 and arrived from Md. to Mo. in 4 days.

I sold a Remington 870 Competition in late March. Shipped the gun via USPS from Meridian, ID to Russell Springs, KY. Twenty eight days later it arrived in perfect condition. Tracking showed it was moved from a postal facility in Texas to Illinois…four round trips.

I will never do it. Too many nightmare stories. That's why I bought a Zoli. The dealer/gunsmith is a 2 1/2 hour drive if he needs the whole gun. I have sent him just the trigger and had it returned without issue. For full servicing, I drive to see him..

Guns and gun parts can no longer be shipped UPS or FedEx by an unlicensed person. Must be FFL on both ends.
While technically true, it can be done so that an individual can ship a gun. Some gun manufacturers or servicers will email you a shipping label, usually after you've filled out a service request online. Pack the gun, print out and attach the label, and then drop off the package at a UPS or FedEx shipping center like you would anything else. Apparently this works because when done this way the FFL (gun company) is both the shipper and the receiver.

I have shipped guns many times with no issue but the climate has definitely changed. It had been about 10 years since my last shipping, and last year followed the rules of my local UPS shipping facility (not a mini-store) but ran into problems when I disclosed the contents, even though I was following the rules to the "T", the clerk checked with the manager and it got kabashed.

I then successfully shipped the gun - believe it or not - using USPS home pick up service and I wasn't home when the package was picked up. Again, following the rules, and it was seamless. Hey, the postal carrier is tired and overworked and just wants to end his day, he isn't going to ask any questions or apply his own political bent to the process.

This will be my new shipping method from now on.

Now, I live is an area where door-to-door thieving is non-existent, for now, and my guns aren't expensive - so each to his own on this. I guess if I was concerned about porch theft I would wait at home for the carrier to come pick up the package, and in the unlikely event I get asked about the contents, the answer will be "48 inch titanium drill bits", but the labeling and disclosures will be accurate because I never want to be in a courtroom where the case is introduced as "The US Federal Government v. Me".

As mentioned above, how would Briley and Coles stay in business if they couldn't ship guns?

Good luck!!

Shipped a Win. SX4 to service center just this past spring. Packed in factory bx. wrapped in Brown shipping paper. Took it to a Fed Ex shipping center and had no issues at all. When it was returned from service center it came via U.P.S.

If you get the pre paid label there's no issues. Purchased a new barrel from cole's and had to ship complete gun. When returned it came directly back to me. If you get the label you can call ups and FedEx to request a pickup at your home. UPS has closed most of there facilities, but again with the label, you can walk in any of the ups stores and hand it to them. No questions asked.
