Just wondering if there are any Arlington Sportsman Club members here?

I've got an application in with the club and hope to be in the next orientation (either February or March).

I was given a tour last weekend by a member and like the layout.

Is there an archery range or anywhere to set up some targets?

I went to their website and couldn't find directions anywhere. Where in Arlington are they located? How much to join?

Kidder,

I am a member of Grand Prairie Gun Club. I chose not to join Arlington due to the sheer number of members and available fields even though they are less expensive to join. When I checked Arlington Sprtsman out back in 2004 I "think" they said they 1,000+ members. What are you shooting mostly, skeet or trap ( straight, wobble or doubles). If ya are new to the area Alpine has a decent sprtg clay course just south of Ft Worth off of Forest Hills exit.

I live in Mansfield and this was the major factor in why I have applied to the Arlington club. I shoot trap but am looking to get more proficient in skeet and 5-stand. I've been to Alpine and have shot skeet, trap, 5-stand and sporting clays out there.

Oh, and the trap I have been shooting is only from a manual thrower. I plan on shooting "real" 16-yard trap. Wobble sounds like fun. I'd love to see this. Maybe I'll head out to the club on the third Saturday if it is still open to the public.

I'm actually planning on heading out to Alpine on Saturday to try out a friend's Baikal o/u. ;)

One of our members @ GPGC does some instructing there at Alpine. I assume you must know someone who is a GPGC member since we do not advertise the day(s) you've spoke of. Do ya know a member? I was out this past Sunday to shoot some skeet and they were shooting trap doubles on trap field 2.

I don't know any GPGC members. The website mentions the info about the days open to the public: http://www.gpgc.net/About%20GPGC.htm

"Public Service: The ranges are open to the public on the third Saturday of each month."

might try going on the 4th sunday to arlington as that is the trap day. 50 16 yards, 50 handicap, and either 25 pair of doubles or 50 wabble. the gates are open to go through. be there about 10 am.

also there is archery ranges right through the front gate. they also have 3d targets jjust past that in the woods. archery is on the second saturday.

5 stand 1st sunday. sporting clays on the 2nd sunday. skeet onthe 3rd sunday.

Kidder,
If you intend on going out to GPGP one Saturday and you'd like to meet up let me know and maybe we can shoot together....
Thanks for the offer. I may try to get out there later in the month.

My dad and I are heading to Alpine tomorrow since he lives relatively close to there.

Where is the GP Club located? I will get my first dose of "real" gun club style shooting tomorrow at Elm Fork, but I can already feel the desire to shoot more growing.

My office is on the border of GP and Arlington (E/S of 360 near I-30) and I would love to check out a place that I could pop into at lunch or after work.

Sounds like you work in very very close proximity to me as I am right across 360 from Don Davis Ford on the E side of 360. GPGC is pretty close to here but for you to be able to go after work or at lunch you'd have to join. Members get a key to the main gate but to shoot over lunch one must have a key to the skeet and trap houses. To get one of those keys one must be a range officer a few times a year and I don't have one of them. To join GPGC costs $750 for the share and then there is a membership fee of ( I think) $125 on top of that which is an annula fee. I also go to Elm Fork occasionally to shoot Sprtg Clays which we do not have at GPGC. We do have 2 wobble trap fields ( or you can set it for straight trap), 5 skeet fields, rifle ( up to 200 Yds) and pistol ranges. If you would like to check it out maybe we could go one Monday after work?

You are close! I am on 109th Street (2nd Light E/O 360) about 100 yards north of Randol Mill (near the Fire Station). I would love to check it out after work sometime. But, I have to complete my courses with Elm Fork first. I promised Jeannie and Jamie that I wouldn't shoot until they were done with me, LOL!

Maybe we can hook up next month. I would very much like to see their facilities and $750 + $125 is a bargain compared to the ridiculous $5K initiation fee at the Dallas Gun Club.

I am a beginner on the Clay scene, but a shotgun hunter since I was a kid in Upstate NY. I am having them teach me everything like I never saw a shotgun before.

Lunch would be cool sometime, I'm booked the rest of this week and on Vacation next week... fire me an email at tdalton@lamar.com anytime after that. Bennigan's, TLC, Humperdink's, whatever...

Small world it is with someone on shotgun world just 2-3 blocks away from where I work and I too was just a northern hunter for the most part until I came down here 3 years ago. I am from PA originally. Will send ya an e mail later!

OK with me.

Kidder do you race motorcycles? Looking at the pic associated with you on line name I'm guessing that answer may be a yes. There is a guy here at work that races speedbike in the CMRA novice class.....
I used to race in the superbike endurance class in the CMRA. Our team has since disbanded. Now, I just ride for fun.
