is there anybody who can tell me ANYTHING about this gun? someone once told me it was maybe 80 or so yrs old, but i haven't been able to confirm anything else on it... and a google search brings almost no results? it has an 18.5" barrel (if that helps),
it's in good shape, and hasn't been fired that much. i'm not looking for the price of it, but rather a bit of history or something.
thx

Your gun appears to be a Savage made Stevens Model 77, quite similar to the Stevens Model 67, except for the foreend. It was probably made around 1970 due to it being an H model. Springfield and Stevens were brands made by Savage.

You are not interested in value since it is probably a family keepsake. It books from $137-188, according to condition.

A little history of the gun's manufacture: It was made from 1958-1971 by Savage Arms. Savage was their top of the line guns. Stevens was their middle grade, while Springfield was their lowest priced line. In my opinion their was no difference in the metal quality, but the Stevens and Springfields were not as well finished and the wood was not up to par with the Savage.

It is a working man's gun, not a beauty contestant. There were some quality problems with these guns and they did not sell as well as the doubles made by Savage under the Fox, Stevens, and Springfield names.

Some of the Savage line of guns started off with the A model and got as far as the H model. Yours is an H model and that gives me indication that it was made toward their last run of this model.

There are members on this forum with better references than mine. These references come out every year and I have missed a few years. My latest is for the year 2006.

thanks! so it's newer than i thought. it used to belong to a gold miner who only used it for protection, but never had to use it. it's not in the best condition (bore is mint though), but i like that cause it gives me an excuse to put it on the ground if i have to ;)

Burn some ammo in it. It needs regular exercise. If it was mine, I would send it to Polychoke and have them install a variable choke device on it. Cost less than $100.00 and will be a very versatile hunting/pleasure/home defense gun.

i live in Vancouver BC, so as for the HD issue, i don't feel like life in prison
i took it to the range the other day for the first time, and only had time for 75 rounds thru it
next time i'll be blasting more.
