greetings - have recently been asked to i.d. a single barrel 16 ga made by a company named "Whippet", the only markings legible is an outline of a running dog, presumably a whippet. any ideas or help much appreciated. thank you for your time.

Whippet: Trade name used by the H. & D. Folsom Arms Company on firearms made for the Hibbard, Spencer, Bartleft and Company of Chicago.
Folsom was a distributer. One entry lists Stevens as the manufacturer, another says "various manufacturers". MarlandS and I can discuss which of these various manufacturers may be the maker, but without seeing the gun or at least some clear photos showing all the markings, we're just guessing.
