Quick question for you all. I recently acquired a brand new Savage 301 20 gauge for turkey hunting. Took it out today to pattern it. Started with some light target loads to get the red dot centered up at 15 yards. Then moved out to 40 yards and fired a 3" 1 5/8 ounce load of TSS #9 at 40. Great pattern with the Jebs Headhunter .565.

Next a fired a 3" 1 7/8 ounce load of #9 Rogue ammo. Shot a great pattern also. But I ran into a problem. The release button to break open the breach was in the down position after the shot and would not come back up. Had to pull the hammer back and pull the trigger with the empty hull in the chamber for it to pop back up so I could open the breech and eject the spent shell. Has anyone else seen this happen. Didn't have any issues with the 3 target loads I shot initially or the 1 5/8 ounce load. Just the one 1 7/8 once from Rogue. Just wondering if anyone else has seen this before. Could it just be to much pressure from that specific shell in the single shot setup? Thanks for any advice you may have. This is my.first 20 gauge turkey gun and it is a pleasure to shoot and patterns great.

You can drive out the knurled pins that are driven through the receiver with a good punch set, good steel. Use some WD40 if necessary. You can then disassemble everything ( not much), clean well, there may be rust or gunk, lube it up with Hoppes or equivalent oil, and use synthetic or white grease on the hinges. It will work just fine. It's nothing to do with shells. Fed Grand Slams #5's took a nice Tom in May this year.
