Hey,
I just purchased a gold hunter 12/28 from Sports Authority.
They didn't know anything about the rebate but I had one on hand went I pick up my gun. I asked them for a copy of the 4473 form that the rebate requires and they said that it was a federal form and it's against company policy to give me a copy.
How conflicting is this? I dont think that they are being good authorized dealers. I made them call Browning and browning said to send them the other form, some kind of return policy form in the place of the 4473 form for the rebate along with a letter of explination. I bought the gun but it looks like I'm gonna have to fight for the rebate. Anybody know why something like this would happen?

Dave,

In this case the dealer was 100% correct in denying you a copy of the 4473. Browning has no business asking for a copy of it when in fact the sales receipt will due.

Its bad enough that the FEDS need to know all the personal information that goes onto the 4473, (did you include your social security number on it?) let alone a company getting hold of it.

We are becoming more and more conditioned to just giving up our privacy.

Think of what you were willing to "sell" to Browning for a mere $100.00.... not worth it to me.. but I am "old school".

Cheers..

I have never encountered a problem in getting a copy when buying a new firearm. I always ask for it. Why ? It is proof that on date, I purchased a bang bang semi auto having serial no. 123. If I should encounter a problem it is positive proof to the maker that I am the origional purchaser. Yes by all means send it the warrenty, store receipts do not have a name and at times a serial no. Only needed to use it once. Since I have a permit my SS number is left blank on the form.

Does anyone else have any other input on this? I have turned in 2 of these rebate forms over the last 5 years and I don't think they required this form, only the sales receipt. I just bought another new one off of gunbroker that should be here today or tomorrow.

I have no idea whether I can get a copy of the 4473 form or not. If I do, should I send the form in, or not? Does the form have SSN on it? Has anyone mailed the rebate to Browning without the form and what happened?

It is so frustrating that so many things "require" SSN on it. Company physical, doctor's office, CELL PHONE, whatever. I leave it blank on everything and then if I am pushed, I make a decision.

Thanks,
