590 Mariner sticking with 3" mag loads...

Quick question... does anyone else with a Mossberg 590 feel the action sticking when shooting full 3" magnum loads? It's not a problem, just feels like the action hesitates and needs an extra yank to clear the chamber... Maybe I've been shooting "play" loads (read: birdshot at coffee cans) too long, but I'm just curious if it's something I should have looked into or if it's just par for the course.

If you've been shooting 2.75in shells, the front of the chamber may be a bit fouled and interfering with the extra length of the magnum shells, causing the hulls to stick. I'd scrub your firing chamber really well and see if it clears the problem up. It's a cheap & easy first step.

I use a 590A1 and the action is very stiff....it is a weapon you have to put some muscle into to charge.
so I've noticed... scrubbed the ***** outta the thing, ran a few more rounds through it and it's still just a muscle issue. oh well, gives me an extra half second to regain a sight picture...

I am getting ready to purchase a Mossberg 590 9shot 20" Marinecote finish. Is there anything that I need to know?

Yeah, I hear you. I don't have a mariner, but I do have a 590. Rather sticky in general as someone else mentioned, but yes, I've noticed especially with the 3', the breast needs to be yanked a little. Hopefully, the guns are just built like this.. otherwise, you and I both might need repairs or something of the like! By the way, I always thought mine was sticky because I never use it. How much have you used yours?
Mine is a little sticky at time too. Pretty intermittent. And only with particular ammo. :(

My father has one of the newer 3 1/2 mag Mossberg shotguns. He encountered the same problem and sent the whole gun back to Mossberg. They changed out the receiver and sent it back. First thing dad did was run some 3 1/2 shells thru it. Action was still really tough to move to load the next shell.

This time my father sent the gun along with 3 3.5 inch shells with it. The people at Mossberg called him and said they ran the 3.5 shells thru and then felt the action problem. They replaced the receiver again and my father hasn't had a porblem since.

You guys with the 590 models..... if your still in warranty I'd send them back.

Thanks for the tip. I just recently got some new 3" shells so I'll be checking again. Mossberg warranty is long so if there's a problem, I can send it in anytime. But I won't be sending both the shotgun AND ammo to them....that is a big no-no. :(
