Sunday during a round of clays my buddies 692 came in half leave the barrel and
receiver in one part .. stock and trigger in the other. Looks like the bolt that maybe held
the two parts together broke... Anyone ever had this happen before? It was ugly..

Could be the bolt. I've had 2 Berettas from new and both had the stock bolt massively over-torqued. Totally unnecessary when simply clamping wood to steel.

On any new Beretta O/U I'd always pull the stock and have a good look round before refitting it with a sensible amount of torque.

It is not the stock bolt... This bolt is under the safety.. it holds the back strap of the receiver
to the lower part of the trigger ring... The gun belongs to a shooting buddy. I'll try to get some
pictures.. Oh yea it did happen when the gun was fired... second shot did not fire thank god...

DR... new gun 6 months old... factory 1 oz.. warranty I don't know. I call Etchens didn't really get a answer...but he just said send to Beretta.. If it were mine they would. I don't think the kid will ever
trust it again....
Factory ammo= defective gun
6 mo old, still under warranty
It will be interesting to see how long it takes Beretta to replace it.

Thanks Hopp.. If I can get them from him I will.. I want folks to see this. What scared me was the bottom barrel did not fire... He turned with the two pieces in his hands. We quickly
took control of the barrel part to secure it. Slowly opened it and removed the shell. Man
that scared me.It was ugly... Jim

Does a 692 not have the floor plate screw in front of the trigger guard? On a 682 there are 2 screws that would have to fail - the one under the safety that locks the top tang into the floor plate assy, and the screw in front of the trigger guard that holds the floor plate to the receiver body.

Seriously over torqued stock bolt could stress the screw under the safety. I think it usually blocks the trigger from working first though. (on a 682 - don't know about the 692)

Yes it does. But on the 68x to separate the trigger plate from the receiver you have to take out that screw under the safety - plus another screw forward of the trigger guard. If Beretta has deleted that screw I wonder how they keep the thing from hinging (like the one your friend has did). Without seeing how the trigger plate integrates with the receiver its hard to understand how the thing holds together. Beretta is pretty good at making O/U's, I'm sure the design is fine, it just seems odd.

From your description as similar as the actual trigger and lockup is supposed to be to the 68x series, the structure in there must be quite a lot different.

Unfortunately, I know of your situation personally.

The problem is in 2 different areas of the gun concerning the torque bolts vibrating loose after many rounds of shooting. Blue Loctite has been the only solution for me to work, but it is very scary when the problem occurs.

http://www.brownells.com/schematics/Ber ... 455sid1062

Part 96 on the forearm Latch assembly.
and I believe
Part 36 that hold the upper part of the trigger group to the lower part.

Anyway, I have discovered that these 2 bolts SHOULD NOT ever be exposed to any synthetic lubricants like Q20 or other synthetic oils. If they do, they will constantly vibrate loose and cause the gun to come in 2 halves as you describe.

Solution:
Disassemble these 2 bolted areas. Completely dry them, Reassemble to proper tension and apply a small drop of Blue Loctite. I have been to 2 gunsmiths and this has ended being the only solution for this problem.

I am not a big fan of the new forearm latch assembly as it has proven to do this on many occasions. Seems to always happen during the middle of a tournament. Imagine that!

The forearm latch on the 682 is much sturdier design in my opinion.
Anyway, you are not alone in this problem.

For further reading, These guys seem to be having the problem as well:

After reading all of material presented here and on a UK forum, I wonder what can a owner do? I have 1200 trouble free rounds so far but the bottom will soon fall out according to saludamc and issues will follow. I have checked all the problem areas mention but no sign of these issues. I love the gun and now shooting it best of all since a minor fitting. I honestly thought the 692 was the right gun for my price range but alas, I was yet again a fool............Depressing
