Hi All--

I have a nice little Remington 870 Express in 28-ga that is a joy to carry when I hike around in the fall hunting grouse. The grouse have always been fairly safe from me anyway, but last year I found that it was hard to get the little 870 on target--even its 24-inch barrel is too long to swing in the dense cover I hunt in--usually a cedar brake or a swamp or other thicket. Also it's choked modified (no rem-chokes system on it), but most of the shots I get are about ten yards or under. I'm thinking of asking my gunsmith to cut the barrel back to about 20 inches and bore it either IC or Skeet I. What do you all think? Oh, it does have a vent rib on it, which I like and will ask him to keep.

Thanks,

Jeff

I don't think he would be able to cut it back and then choke it, unless you mean having it threaded to accept choke tubes. That he could do. The 28ga Wingmasters come with Briley chokes so that might be a brand you consider.

Ah thanks, Pumper. I didn't know that--live and learn!
