PS. where can i get a scope base for the winchester 1300? ive only heard of saddle mounts for shotguns but the 1300 comes with the reciever drilled and tapped.

PPS. also which scope would everyone recomend for me since i want one to be used for rabbit, ducks, geese, turkey, and deer?

eh thx for that reply equis but i wont need the rings as the red dot im going to get comes with them so all i need is the base. plus i want a base that u screw onto the top of the reciever as the win 1300 deer gun comes drilled and tapped already.

so the win 1300 is a smoother gun but its not as rugged? could u expand upon this more? im not too sure of what u mean by rugged.

BTW, how many of u think that i should get a 3 1/2" gun or is a 3" gun good enough? ill be hunting everything in ontario with it over the years.

would anyone please tell me if there is anything bad about the winchester 1300 black shadow deer gun as well as what is really good about them?

thanx all

The 870's receiver is steel. The 1300's is aluminum. Rugged in the fact that the steel receiver is stronger. The advantage the 1300 has is no rust (receiver only) and less weight. The 870 has been a proven law enforcement weapon and military weapon. I don't know if the 1300 has seen military service and I don't know of any law enforcement agencies that use the 1300. I'm sure there are. I do know that there are several LE agencies that do use Mossbergs.

It's more a matter of what you're going to use it for and the weather conditions. EBay might have a top mount base if you do a search.

Also, the 1300 will all but eject a slug, requiring a very short rearward stroke. Its what win called their speed pump. It also has a rotating bolt that positively locks into the barrel, much like a rifle. My combo came with the rings and base. Either way they are both great guns.

Canadian Hunter,

I can't really help on the scope or base type. I don't hunt with slugs....yet. If I take my shotgun hunting for deer here in NC it's usually in a cutover that's grown back a few seasons. Visibility is short range.

As for the Walmart cheapo's, buy a case of each when you can and try them all. I personally shoot the Remington Sure-Shot Heavy Dove. They're about 30 cents more a box but are very good shells for my shotguns. You'll have to shoot what your shotgun patterns best with unless that doesn't matter to you.

Good luck. The Walmart cheapo's here are $14.88 US.

equis i aint gonna be usin the scope for just deer, i am looking for a good red dot that is between 40mm - 50mm so i have a larger sight picture while using the scope. since they r only 1x power thats y i wanna use one all the time no matter what im hunting.

if anyone has had any experience with the winchester 1300 black shadow deer or the combo please let me know as i havent heard anything about the accuarcy of the fully rifled barrel.

thanx

also, is a red dot still good for shooting slugs at 125-150yards?

just wondering if its possible to use them at that range.

i need a scope that will be good for close 20 yard rabbit shooting to 150 yard deer shots.

please help me everyone

thx

i have decided to look at a Turkey Deer combo setup. 870 has a combo in a camo package on the stock and forearm and comes with 2 barrels. the 1300 is all camo, one barrel with x-full turkey choke and a rifled choke.

Any opinions on which setup is prefered?

thanks
