This is my youth 20 gauge 870, 21” barrel. I bought this new in 2017 as I’ve always thought these are such handy little shotguns. I haven’t shot it much since I bought it. I put a Carlsons IC choke in it and have shot mostly about 50 rounds of Winchester and Remington #3 Buck through it. It has become a secondary HD gun mostly. Next turkey season I plan to get a turkey choke and try hunting with the 20 gauge. The gun shoots great and is really pretty slick operating for not being shot much.

Anyway, I really didn’t like the thick dull crap brown finish on the wood. Decided to strip the wood and put some Tru-Oil on it. The wood’s not great but I think it looks much better. As good as it can I guess.

Yes the smaller frame 20 ga I think makes it look longer proportionally. But it’s 21.

Here is a comparison next to my Beretta A300 with 28” barrel which I also recently refinished the wood on.

Mine is from 1993. It (factory) looks about like your refinish looks like. Crazy how they changed them in that time.

Yes I’m not sure when they started using that awful dull brown finish, almost like UPS brown paint. My Beretta A300 had the same finish.

I think they use that dark mud brown for same reason Beretta does, i.e. to hide color differences. In that way they don’t have to fret matching forend & buttstock wood shades.

Nice job! Far better than original.
