Try and stay with me while i explain this, i warn that i am just getting started so the terms and words i use to describe my problem may be very incorrect.

The newer models of 870 express shotguns have two prongs bent in at the end of the tube to catch the plastic piece that holds the sping in. The problem with this is that when you purchase an extension those prongs must be removed so that shells may slip past them. What is the best way to accomplish this? I was going to try and just bend the prongs in with pliers, but the tube metal is more sturdy than i had originally thought. Because of this any attempts to bend the prongs put the threading at the end of the tube in jeopardy. If anyone has any insight or advice it would be very appreciated.

I am running into the same problem. I have seen them drilled out, dremeled off, but the recommendation I like best is to find a socket from a wrench set that fits close to the interior diameter of the mag tube and hammer it past the dimples. In theory it should force them back most of the way. Finish with a dremel if needed. That way you will not remove much metal.

I must admit that I have not been brave enough to try this last method. If anyone has, please post your opinions.

Drilling it out was very simple for me. I did use a drill press, but it was no problem at all and the barrel clamp covers the holes so you never see it. After drilling it out, I took a rounded file similar to a pencil size and filed off the nubs left from drilling on the inside, and some sandpaper on the outside(more carefully not to damage any of the finish around the holes). I *think* it was a 3/8 inch bit??

If you have the tube extension already, just do it, it is easier than I thought and I am happy with mine. I'm still looking for an extension for mine.

Oops, guess I am the guilty one. But it bears repeating some of this stuff, as it was what I found when researching this topic.
No worries -- I just started a thread a week or so ago on the very same subject...that's what I get for not searching first.

BTW -- I took a dremel to mine and smoothed them out -- then did away with the scratches with 600 grit sandpaper. Works GREAT!
