I have a new question related to material under the shot in the cup. The load is as follows:
Remington plastic hunting (yellow plastic base) 3 inch hulls
Rem STS 209 primers
28.4 grains Longshot
Remington SP-12 shot cup
1/8 inch 20 gauge felt
1 7/8 oz (53.16 gms) nickle plated #5 lead shot.
This is a load straight off an old Hogdon website. I printed the page for reference. The only addition I made was the felt so as to adjust the shot height for a good crimp. I am running out of felt inserts and looking at a substitution, reason explained below. I have 1/8 inch 20 gauge nitro cards. Is the nitro card a substitute for felt, cork, or fiber under the shot in this case? I ask this as I see some state that nitro cards are not a substitute for felt, cork, or fiber. I am not sure if they are talking about under shot in the cup or outside in the stack. Now the reason I am out of 1/8 felt inserts is that I have a different #9 TSS turkey load that requires 3/4 inch spacer inside the cup, under the shot. I have been using 2 of the 1/8 inch felt to make up ¼ inch for this spacer. I have ½ inch fiber 20 gauge for the rest. My second question is can the 1/8 inch 20 gauge nitro cards mentioned above be used for the 1/8 inch 20 gauge felt under the TSS shot as well. Thanks in advance for your help.
