would hoppes # 9 work to clean the action of my mossy 500? I would field strip the gun and then use a tooth brush to scrub the parts, wipe it dry with a cloth and then add a coat of rem oil.

Perfect. Nothing wrong with doing it that way. Just be sure to use the Rem Oil as the Hoppe's will remove all the oil.

That's the way I've always done mine. The difference being I use a little heavier oil. Usauly pump oil works you just have to "change the oil' often as the heavier oil tends to cause a build up a dirt faster.
