I can't believe we are going to pay $200.00 for a 500.00 HOA main event and only paying three places in class. And a $100.00 prelim with only $10.00 back to class. You would think are Board of directors would look over this better when the ASCA is in bad shape.?????

My main problem with it is, it's just 2 weeks before the Turkey shoot. If you do both the Al state and the Turkey. Thats a lot of of cash in a 2 week period. Not to mention that the Zone shoot is just 3 weeks after the Turkey. Three very expensive shoots within 6 weeks of each other.

Another thing is, Circle W is doing everything they can to get NON-NSCA shooters to attend the Al State. They are offering Non-nsca shooters a discount price of $150 to shoot the main. Personally, I think they should be doing all they can to get shooters to join the nsca instead of rewarding them for not jioning. <<<(just my 2 cents )

Also, I was told that the ASCA has nothing to do with this years shoot. Danny said he was told to run the shoot 100%. And that the ASCA was not involved at all.

You are 100% correct Glenn. And I brought up that fact while talking to Danny and was told point blank that the NSCA doesen't tell Circle W what to do.

The orginal shoot flyer had the NSCA and "hunter" class entry fees set as $200 for NSCA and $150 for "hunter" class. I just went and looked, and a new flyer has been posted. There is no mention of hunter (or non-nsca)class. So maybe he decided it wasen't worth the fight to offer a lower price.

During a SSC shoot on Memorial Day, he addressed the crowd and told us he would let non members shoot for $150. Weather that still stands I don't know. And truthfully, this wouldn't affect me personally as I am nsca.

this is a club that has only has one nsca shoot all year, and you can shoot any day of week for 25.00 how do they justify the 200.00 entry fee, sound like a ripoff from here, i am sure we will get some used power line tranformer for a trophy, i think the asca should move the shoot to montgeomery or northeast and lower the entry fee, i dont see shooting in a cow pasture and be ripoff for 200.00 bucks
""""""""""""what a joke""""""""""""" is this what alabama sporting clays is going to, sure not going to get new shooter and grow the sport this way

good to see someone feels the same way i do i told danny last week this is a ripoff and the entry fee is way to high this will be the first alabama state shoot that i will not shoot no way to break even paying 200 entry takin time off work gas hotel shells just to win 500 if he pays that if there some way he can get out of paying the winning i can a sure you he will. if were going to shoot for fun the entry fee should be 100 to 125 i think i will go fishing this year good luck to all.

You might want to check on that. I believe it is against the rules to offer a lower price for non-members.
First of all "hunter" class is NOT an NSCA class therefore they have ZERO control over it.You people are letting them try to tell you different.I shoot in NSCA but could care less about hunter class as all of you should.Quit trying to mimmick the US Govt and control everything and everybody.Shoot it or don't. It's that simple. If he wants to let them shoot for free then so be it. It's his club and nobody else's

Too bad Alabama can't seem to pull together for a good State Organization. Look next door at Georiga for how to do it. The Alabama State Shoot has been a disaster for years, the exception was N.E. Ala last year, they had a great turnout and did a good job...Circle W is not a shooter friendly club, understaffed and lacking quality targets but plenty of cow pies. Apparently it's Danny's way or the highway.. I was there once and will not go back...Amen.

I'm a relatively new Alabama resident, only 10 years, an Atlanta transplant, and I am very disappointed with this years State Shoot being held at Circle W.

I just returned from the Georgia State Shoot, which was well attended and had pro level targets, and now our State shoot is set to be held in a cow pasture with the same entry fees??

Last year we had a good shoot at NEASC'S and I don't understand why either Lower Watumpka or NEASC'S didn't get the shoot for this year. These two clubs are really working to build Sporting Clays registered shooting in Alabama and are very shooter friendly. I'm so disappointed that I'm not going to Circle W. I'll wail for the Zone as my next big shoot.

A once a year shoot club needs to step up their game if they want to hold the State Shoot and do their part to promote Alabama Sporting Clays shooting. I know we don't have as many registered shooters as Georgia or TN. but that doesn't mean we have to accept "red headed step child" status for our top annual shoot.

Hello all, I am trying to answer some questions that has came up here on shotgunworld.com.

To RholderF3
The Alabama Association (Not the Board of Directors) voted at the end of the State Shoot in 2009 at Lower Wetumpka Shotgun Sports Club to determine that the State shoot would be held at Northeast Alabama Sporting Clays in 2010, Circle W 2011, and Lower Wetumpka Shotgun Sports Club 2012. However the by-laws require 5 registered tournaments prior to the state shoot, and in addition it requires the club to be in good standing with the association. Circle W has not fulfilled this commitment, as of this date 7/6/2011, and I understand your frustration.

To Focus
The State Association did not help with the shoot last year, we did it all ourselves, and had some great shooters help out with the shoot.

To Ala Shooter and PA4476
We have to charge the same for hunter, and NSCA members, if not the club can lose their status as a member of the National Sporting Clays Association. Should Circle W charge $150.00 to hunter class I will file a complaint myself with the National Sporting Clays Association… Paul this shoot is for the Alabama Shooters not for the non NSCA members and you are correct. I think we need to do anything possible to get registered shooters to participate. The date that was chosen is to be determined by the Club, the Club only hosts the shoot for the State Association, I have offered to help in any way. This date if it had been presented to the association would have been rejected due to the Turkey Shoot.

To Ala Shooter
To my knowledge the prices were not presented to the Board of Directors, and the payout amounts were not presented to the Board of Directors. I stepped down from the President of the Board in March due to a heart attack; I have resumed the responsibilities as of last week.

Circle W need to get in good standing with the ASCA.

Mr. Neeley,I don't really have an argument on the happenings in Ala. My issue is the fact that people actually beleive the NSCA has control over"hunter" class. That's damn hysterical.Tell them to mind the business of NSCA shooters ONLY.What if everybody that played in a golf tourney had to be a PGA member? If I were a range owner I would ignore them. They have nothing without the clubs so let them get all pissy. Some of you are gonna tell me how we have to follow NSCA rules. Well I would ignore you too.The NSCA does not own the ranges and do NOTHING for the ranges. Why listen to them?Yes I'm an NSCA member for whatever that's worth.

Homey, I agree with you in that I don't think NSCA should be able to say what a NON-NSCA shooter has to do or pay. But, the fact is, all shooters have to abide by nsca rules in the shoot, ie: how targets are scored, thrown, shot and so on. I think you would agree on that ? And the truth is, nsca says that all shooters must pay the same entry fee ( members and non-members ). Again, let me say, I don't think nsca should be able to force non-members to do anything.

BUT, just for arguments sake, lets say you go shoot the state shoot as a member. And the club advertises and allows non-members to shoot for a reduced rate. And lets say the NSCA finds out that the club broke the pricing rule that's mandated by the NSCA. Would you be upset if the nsca refused to register your state shoot targets because the club broke the rule ? Remember, you as a member did nothing wrong, you played by the rules. But the club didn't. Would it be fair for you to be punished ?

Also, lets remember. Anyone who has never been a member can sign up for FREE at any registered shoot for a year. So we should be pushing for all these non-members or "hunter" class as they are called to join for free and shoot registered.

Stacey, thanks for the responce and clarity on some of these issues. Also, I am glad to hear you are doing well enough to want your office back. Hope to see ya'll soon at NEASC.

PA4476...You are correct, NSCA has no jurisdiction or authority over non NSCA members but they do have some say with NSCA authorized member clubs. It's the club that must follow the rules set forth if they want to offer registered targets. I agree this non-registered shooter fee rule is not followed by some clubs and it appears NSCA is looking the other way. Kinda like the three foot rule!

Aside from any payouts or awards, at a registered event, particularly a large shoot like The State, how is it less expensive to throw a target for a non-registered shooter?

Granted the club owner does not want to turn away any business but is it worth the hassel. I looked back at the recent Georgia State Shoot and there were only about 6 or so non-registered shooters there.

IMO registered shoots are for NSCA members, if you are not a member you can join free as PA4476 stated or pay the required fee as a non-member. If anything a non-member should pay an extra charge for the privilege. You don't see any other organized sport/game let "walkons" play for a lessor amount..

Alabama only had 2 in Hunter class last year, the Alabama Sporting Clays Championship is an event for registered NSCA members. 400 targets of the 68,650 were for the hunter, and no it doesn't cost less for the hunter, to shoot a round of sporting clays.

To follow up on Stacey's comments .......

1). I would like to publicly take this opportunity to thank Stacey Neeley for his help and WORK at getting the Sporting Clays Assocation of Alabama (SCAA) headed back, in at least the right direction !!! Stacey had some health issues earlier in the year that prevented his direct input with regards to the State Shoot !!! In Stacey's absence I spoke with Paul Cobb (SCAA's VP) a couple of times about getting things going with the state shoot ..... and he has his own "presssing issues" !!!

2). I began to try and work dates out with Danny as early as late Jan., early Feb. '11 ....... in Danny's defense, he runs a grocery business and Quail hunting preserve and Josh has been "called to preach" (as we call it in the south ...lol) and gone back to school. Issues at NEASC and Stacey's health concerns along with my own business, has requirred a lot of my time .....

3). Many people worked long and hard for last years ALabama State shoot to go as well as it did at NEASC ........ not without issues .... but something I was proud to be a part of !!!!

4). A deal was cut with Circle W (Danny and Josh White) to allow NEASC to hold the Alabama State shoot in '10 and they would get it in '11 .... I'm doing everything in my power to honor my word to Danny and Josh. I have agreed to "move/rent" traps from NEASC to Circle W and set the targets for the State Shoot ..... just to try and make it as much of a success as possible !!!!

5). There is no effective Alabama State Sporting Clays Assocation (other than principles at NEASC such as Stacey and myself) ..... and if you think there is ...... you are mistaken !!!! Wayne Cree (SCAA's treasurer) confirmed as early as today ... that Alabama has 3 clubs who are current and meet requirements to hold a State shoot ..... NEASC, LWSSC, and Bushy Creek Clays !!! Tannehill has been sold and Taylor Creek has not rejoined ...... Selwood and Limestone Co. have not committed to join our assn. and for what it provides its member clubs ..... I'm not sure I blame them !!!

6). For SCAA to exist and florish, it will requirre member involvement and WORK ...... Georgia hit rock bottom a couple of years ago .... and thru a lot of hard work from MANY people they seem to be back on the right track !!!

7). SCAA will have a booth at the upcoming "Deer Show" in Birmingham ..... to try and promote not only Sporting Clays but its member clubs ...... I am seeking sponsorship from Alabama based businesses to be divided among "Alabama State Shooters" during the state shoot ...... I have many ideas to improve our sport and assocation .... but I/SCAA needs member involvement !!! I spoke with Matthew at LWSSC about taking the presidency over this next term and he refused ..... I won't repeat why !!!!

Just an FYI for all .... in Stacey's absence .... I am the one who approved the date for the Alabama Sate shoot ..... with Danny White !!!

Look at a calendar ...... Alabama is scheduled to be part of the Gamaliel Cup ..... Cherokee Rose was scheduled for Ga. state (June) and Zone 4 (Sept) ..... if not when scheduled .... then when ???

I had nothing to do with entry fees or pay-outs ...... and I'm the one who told Danny that for all practical purposes .... he was on his own and not to expect much from the 'state assn., if '10 was any indication of things to come !!!

If blame lies ..... lie it at my feet !!!
