I bought a Model 1012 in September '07 and traded it in on a pistol a couple of weeks ago. I lost $175.00+ on it in the process. Mine had to go back to the factory for a new bolt with less than two flats of shells through it. The new bolt appeared to be re-manufactured and a trim piece also seemed to be not the one on the gun and in a more worn condition than when I sent it back. The gun seemed to work OK after I got it back but I just never could get over the dissatisfaction. I was unhappy with the S&W service. Probably will not buy another S&W product for that reason.
They are built in Turkey. Smith & Wesson bought into one of the Turkish companies in order to keep up the quality. I haven't even seen one in a shop yet. After the CZ 712/720's I'd be wary about buying one, especially this early in their production. It's taken several years for Stoeger to work out the kinks in the M2000.
