Hi all,

Was cruising the local Cabelas and saw some Armsan / Legacy Pointer 12 gauge semi-autos on the rack for $379, identical to this: https://www.cabelas.com/shop/en/100623673

They are obviously synthetic stocked with a cheaper matte finish, but curious if any of you have experience with these? I know they are made by Armsan, which also makes the Tristar shotguns (Viper, Raptor), the Weatherby SA-08, and I believe one of the Mossberg semis as well. In looking at the schematics in the owner's manuals, the parts diagrams look very similar between the Tristar Raptor and the Pointer. While they don't say Phenoma on them, I think they have been referred to by this name.

Looking for a soft shooting gas gun for my son to use in informal recreational sporting clays shooting, and curious if this would be a good option or if another $200 for a Beretta A300 Outlander would be better? Curious to hear from people who have actual experience shooting the Pointers. Thanks!

Thanks!

The Pointer Semi-Auto's come heavily packed in grease? You cannot just install the barrel and go to the range, it jams up! You need to physically take down the gun and totally clean everything, put it together and go pattern it and install shims because it will hit high and to he left every time. A shim kit is required, and does' not come with the gun. You cannot even buy one from Ponter? But after its cleaned it shoots as good as a Browning!

ATA manufactures the Weatherby Sa-08, not Armsan. Armsan does manufacture the Tristar viper G2 and Mossberg Sa-20.

I believe Weatherby is only currently importing the youth compact 20 gauge Sa-08. I purchased a couple for my son and niece an about a year and a half ago. Great little autoloaders! The ATA CY is essentially the same gun as the Sa-08 and is sold at Academy Sports.

The A300 Outlander is an another great semi auto shotgun! The one I used to own (before my daughter took it from me) has over 9000 rounds through it without a single issue, or failure to cycle.

I'm an advocate for lower cost reliable guns and sensible entry price into the sport. I certainly have a couple of low cost guns in my safe, including a Tristar Viper G2 (which I recommend). But for $300 more, I'd get the Beretta A300. Not a single person I can imagine would deny that the beretta is a better gun, and its only 300 more.

Its sporting clays. The cost of the gun is the cheapest part of the sport.
