The measured patterns from my gun (B25 with typical Browing nominal bore) were near identical to a Baker Big Bore at 0.800". By near identical I mean the same pellet distributions and same pellet coverage. Hence no evidence that backboring "improves" patterns.
Someone in the US compared near-identical Perazzis: One with lengthened forcing cones one without. 20 patterns from each (that's 40 in total) showed identical performance. The strong suggestion was the longer forcing cones made no difference.
You'll hear a lot of claims about the benefits of various barrel mods. You will seldom see any data. I have NEVER seen any GOOD data to support the claims. IMHO, no data = no substance to the claims.
