G'Day All,
Just a quick question from the other side of the world.
I have recently purchased a second hand Baikal 12g. sxs shotgun.
The model is IJ58M and the serial no. is PO33xx.

I have also purchaced a second hand Rossi coach gun serial no. 32xx.

I was wondering if anyone could give me a rough idea of when each of these guns were made!
I would also like to know what the chokes of the Baikal would be as I cannot understand the markings under the chambers.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Regards
Marty.

If you post or describe any markings then you will help people to give you a better answer.

Look for any crown or emblem type symbols for general information. Baikal has been making guns for severall decades and some of the older ones are quite valuable.

For the chokes look for any stars or any numbers eg 18.2

I assume rossi is Italian?... look for any roman numerals for the dating.
G'Day Again,
I've had a good look over both guns and have noted the following features and markings.

Baikal:-
Double triggers, Hammerless, 28.5" bbls.
L/H side of receiver has "Made in USSR" and a long billed bird etched on it.
R/H side of receiver has "Model IJ58M" and a duck etched on it.
There is also a little bit of scoll work under the receiver.

Underneath the chambers:-
L/H side has a circle with an "E" inside, a Diamond with an "H" inside, two symbols followed by 750AT, and a horizontal diamond with symbols inside.
R/H side has "M", An diamond with an "H" inside, A shield with an arrow inside, and a tappered square witk an "H" inside.

Woodwork is ckeckered od both the forend and pistol grip.
It has a brown plastic butt plate with "Baikal" and a shield with an arrow embossed in it. Pistol grip cap is also brown plastic and both cap and butt plate have white spacers.

Rossi:-
Exposed hammers, double triggers, 20"bbls.
Above chambers in rib it's stamped "Amaded Rossi S.A." and "SAO LEOPOLDO R.S." and "MADE IN BRAZIL".

On top of lower receiver ther appears to be a manufacturing number. "No. RG. T50639." and a circle with "FIC" in it.

I hope this will help someone to give me an idea of the age of both these guns and any other information that may be available.

Thankyou in advance.

Regards,

Marty.

Here is the baikal site: http://www.baikalinc.ru/eng/

The baikal was made in Izhevsk Russia and has been proofed for both smokeless and black gunpowder.

750 AT must be the pressure. Its a working pressure, not a proofing pressure and basically means use non magnum loads.

It has 70mm chambers and From the net its weight seem to be around 3.1kg

M and E might be the chokes but i am only speculating |see a gunsmith for precise measurements of chokes).

The gun appears old but I do not know how to decipher the age from the model or serial number.

be back later..

Here is Amadeo rossi address:
Rua Amadeo Rossi, 143, Sao Leopoldo, RS 93030

For the FIC....FIE was a US gun importing company but they appear to have had sales in Australia as well.

.I.E. parts information is available through Numrich Arms Gun Parts Corp. Some F.I.E. products were manufactured by Tanfoglio but F.I.E. was, primarily, a distributor (Firearms Import Export) dealing in the products of several manufacturers located outside the United States.
web site:
http://www.rossi.com.br/

Her is their us price list (current) : http://www.rossiusa.com/2003RossiRetailPrices.pdf

and the US site: http://www.rossiusa.com/

For value.. well here they are asking $650..: http://www.gunsamerica.com/guns/976382839.htm

for this:

but values vary with condition and appear to be around $500 for very good condition guns. The gun you have, was probably made in the early 1980s

also check :http://forums.sixgunner.com/classDetail.asp?id=133 and: http://www.aci.net/schaefer/page53.html

Thats the best I can do.. Marlands???

For both your guns your best bet is to email the respective sites given giving them the model and serial number.
