If the bluing is wearing off on one area of a barrel, can it be touched up and blended with the rest of the barrel satisfactorily, or is it best to re-blue the whole barrel? Is the ubiquitous Birchwood Casey Perma Blue any good, or is another brand preferable?

Nearly all instant blues lie on top of the metal; for that reason, you will probably be able to notice it.

If I were going to try retouching the blue, I wold contact Brownells in Iowa -- (www.brownells.com)

I would describe the area needing rebluing and ask someone in their tech department how to proceed and the liklihood of a successful outcome.
