I have a Beretta AL391 Urika Optima, but I am looking for a step up. I also use a Beretta 686 Onyx 12GA O/U. I thought the Sport II would be a step up with it's cryo treated barrel. Also is a 26'' barrel better for skeet, or a 28'' barrel. I have been buying guns with 26'' barrels. Also will I break more clays with a cylinder choke or a skeet choke? Thanks.

If you want a cryo-treated barrel go here www.300below.com
they'll cryo-treat your barrel for you. A Benelli is not a "step-up" they are great guns but just trick your Beretta out.
You can also buy a shorter barrel for skeet but it really doesn't make a diffrence if you shoot with a pre-mounted gun. If you shoot with a pre-mounted gun then you could easily shoot skeet with 34'' barrels.

New chokes are always great
Barrel Porting
Backboring is really nice
Having your forcing cone lengthened
Trigger work
Hi-viz sights
Having your gun fitted by a pro

Any of the above would be great for your gun.

Just get a Teknys Sporting, all the
long chokes
Backboring
forcing cones lengthened
Trigger work
Hi-viz sights
are already done for a fraction of what aftermarket would cost.

HI, I am new here, but, I have shot the Beretta AL391 Urika Optima and I own a Benelli Sport II. These are both great guns but the Sport II was designed for Sporting Clays and as a field gun. My shooting budy has the Beretta AL391 Urika Optima and we switch guns every week. I find that the Beretta kicks less but not much. My the Benelli swings faster and points better for me. I score 5-6 clays higher with the benelli. He shoots about the same but he is better than I am. I also use the benelli as my primary bird gun and the light wieght is great. But back to your question the Benelli would not be a step up from what you have now.

I am sorry but I have to strongly disagree. Trying to shoot station 8 with a 34" barrel would be foolish. All the 10,000's of skeet guns that are 26" barrels are bought for a good reason--fast moving close up targets. Sure a 28" is fine and plentiful but rarely will you find a serious skeet competitor with a 30".

Sorry, I misworded that. You CAN easily shoot skeet with a 34'' barrel (I have) but you have to shoot a pre-mounted and have to really be able to move the gun. If you have semi strong arms and know how to whip a gun-up it's really not that difficult. Again my apologizes for mis-wording my post.
Can you forgive me :(

I have a Benelli 28'' Sport II and I love it.. Personally I've shot the Beretta 391 Urika/Teknys Sporting a lot and the recoil is really not that much different... Yes its a little less with the Beretta, but don't make your decision on that alone. That would be a big mastake!!

The mechanics on th Benelli is soo much faster..
The Beretta is slow motion compared to it...
The new chokes are awesome..(Awesome patterns)
Points great
Cryo-treated barrel
Balances perfectlly,

For Sport Clay/ 5 Stand I haven't found a better Auto..
Shoot both before you make your decision...

Thanks for the help. I am trying to find a good gunsmith in St. Louis Missouri, but I probably just need to look in the phonebook. I will probably just get stuff done to the shotguns I have now. I will look into getting the forcing cone lengthend and polished, porting, and the cryo freezing thing.

Deadeye600,

You stated initially that you want to shoot skeet for fun but not competition. For your requirements, probably the last thing that you should spend your money on would be paying someone a fairly healthy price to deep-freeze your barrel.
