Beretta AL391 Urika vs. Benelli M1 or Sport II

I am a woman about to buy my first shotgun. I have shot my husband's Winchester Super X2 (7.75 lbs) repeatedly on trap, sporting clays and skeet and it's a good gun for me. I have shouldered the 391 and the M1 ~ the M1 is the best fit, but I am concerned with the recoil. If using 1 oz. loads, will the M1 (7.4 lbs) kick harder than the 391 (7.3 lbs)? In other words will the gas/inertia system make a difference in recoil? Do you think I would be better with the Sport II (7.85 lbs) since it's weight is similar to the Super X2, or would there be more recoil with the Benelli?

I've been told that the most important factor when purchasing a gun is a good fit, but I also want to be able to shoot 100 rounds a day. Any advice you can provide would be appreciated.

Tucker L,
Welcome to ShotgunWorld. Nice to see the ladies getting into my beloved hobby/addiction.

While out of the box the Winchester (Browning) and Beretta will give less recoil because of their gas operation. Benelli's intertia systems recoil can be mitigated with proper fit and recoil accessories. If it fits considerably better than the others look at Limbsaver recoil pads and mercury recoil reducers in the M1 Synthetic.
Thanks for your reply. If I take your advice and order a synthetic Benelli M1 with the mercury recoil reducers I will have a gun that weighs about 8 lbs, which doesn't bother me. But I am curious what you think about purchasing a shotgun that I have never had the opportunity to shoot. I have shot the Beretta AL391 Urika and could feel the recoil (slightly) more so than on the Winchester Super X2, but I liked shooting it. You also mentioned the fit being considerably better to warrant the Benelli, both guns fit really well, but I prefer the stepped rib on the Benelli. Do you think I should consider an AL391 Urika Trap or Target Optima (they would be heavier due to recoil reducer and have stepped rib)? Thanks for any information!
I've bought a couple of guns without ever shooting them and have been pretty lucky. But I'm a 6'1" male with pretty standard arm length and have a pretty easy time shooting "off the rack" guns.

For Women, I'd generally say try getting your hands on and/or shooting anything before you buy it. Y'all are just hard to fit.

As for the stepped ribs, I don't know..Ribs are Ribs to me, and you'd probably get comfortable with whichever ribs system comes on the gun that is more comfortable to shoot. In my way of looking at it, fit, comfort, recoil are far and away more important that the sight picture you get when you first get the gun. The target is where all of my focus is so the rib and bead are there for decoration.

HI im Tyler and i was in your same position. im 13 and im very little. the 12 ga 391 is what i would recomend. im in the ata and i shoot a lot of targets and the only way i can do that is whith a gas operated beretta 391or else i wouldnt enjoy shooting because of the recoil.
