Beretta Silver Pigeon 28 gauge using Fiocchi Ammunition. Many times it will not load cannot close the breach. Other brands Winchester X no problem even though the brass is longer on the other brands no problems using all other brands of ammunition. I also have the Browning Citori in 28 gauge no problems feeding this gun? Cannot get a straight answer from others, I have not contacted Fiocchi yet but I will be. Thanks in advance. PS sporting clays is what they are used for Wife and myself.

Thanks in advance

Stop using Fiocchi shells in that gun sir. I have had numerous problems with them in some guns. They don't reload worth spit for me. I won't even pick them up anymore. Some guys like them and reload them, but it's going to have to get a lot worse on ammo shortage before I use them. I recently had a box of Fiocchi 410 shells given to me. Same issue in my citori. The old Baystate single barrel ate them up.

I have two Beretta 686 28ga (White Onyx and SPIII). Both have very tight chambers making shooting reloads problematic to the point of frustration. I had to tighten my MEC 8567 brass sizing die down a bit, but actually back off the final hull sizing die as if it was down to low it caused the shell to bulge slightly. I have only shot Winchester, Remington, Rio and B&P factory loads in those guns and none caused a problem. Can't speak to Fiocchi. I got tired of messing with them, bought a set of Flex Hone chamber hones and polished the chambers. After that, no problems, though neither will allow you to "drop" the shell in like some other 28's (Guerini's and Ruger) but a slight push is all it takes. No idea why Beretta makes such a tight chamber on their 28's. I also have a 20ga and it is not tight at all.

I recently had to deal with this issue with my reloads. I got tired of the dished crimps I was getting with Cheddite hulls and decided to so some re-adjusting to my 600 Jr. I thought I had it dialed in really sweet but neglected to check on how well the shells chambered in my SP III. Took three boxes to the range and and all were a bit tight with 10% keeping the gun from closing. Seems that pretty looking crimp had a bit of a bulge to large for the camber. Found out that by backing out the center punch at the final crimp station by just 1/64 inch was all that was needed to have shells that drop freely into the chambers. BTW, the crimps still look very nice.

Tip here is for the reloaders among us. Don't be foolish like I was and Check for Chambering any time you decide to fiddle with a working setup.

Had similar problems with some shells in 686 (12ga)
For me it was not the body/taper/whatever of the hull or the chamber dimensions (3" chamber...). If hull is crooked somehow (crooked wad, "crown"/taper or whatever) gun can be closed in most cases, a little bit stiffer but can be closed.

It was about the rim thickness AND/OR rim not being concentric to the base. Sometime rotating a shell in a chamber helped...

After smashing the rim in a reloader (making it thinner) - no problems with closing a gun.

I am new to this forum, but today I fired my semi new Beretta 686 silver pigeon 28 gauge for the first time. First 25 rounds I used fiocchi orange, not a single issue. Second box was fiocchi exacta and then I began having issues to close the gun after reloading; it would close but not without some effort. At first I thought it was the gun, but it was a very distinct before and after that got me thinking, I did a google search and this popped up, so here I am. I will buy more orange boxes, and compare it directly with the exacta ones and make a conclusion.
