Best way to clean your barrels???

How do you guys clean your barrels after shooting? There has to be a better way than what I'm using.

What I mean is not what solvents you use but what techniques and stuff. I use a rod with a solvent soaked cloth attached to the end. It gets to be a real pain in the butt. Is there another way to clean?

I use a Bore Snake....has a wire brush built right in, couple swipes with it and all is shiny and bright.
There is a fine line between a hobby and insanity.

I use a bore brush, wrap with a patch and a little solvent on it. Works smooth. Shells

You're supposed to clean them?

Just kidding ...I use the three piece type of rod with the cotton patches. I usually spray some bore cleaner down the barrel before I leave the field or range.

For a 12 gauge I like to rap a 20 gauge bore brush with 0000 steel wool. It will hold your solvent and not run all over the place. It will get the plastic out and not hurt you barrels. As the steel wool wears, just add more. Finish with a patch stuck on the end of a bore brush.

What about chrome lined barrels?

Should you be concerned about scratching the chrome with a wire brush or steel wool? I guess not the 0000 steel wool on a 20 gauge brush (I like that idea), but I've been afraid to put a wire brush down my chrome barrel for fear of ruining the internal finish on the barrel.

I do realize that it's taking lots of abuse from the action of shooting 12 gauge rounds through it, but I'm still nervous about brushing it? Should I be? Am I just being foolish?

I clean my shotgun after every use.
I spray a little solvent down the bore, then use a brass bore brush until i see no more fouling clinging to the bore. Then, I put a patch over the brush and push it through towards the muzzle. I will then put on a new patch for pulling the brush back through. It really cleans it out nice. Then, a patch with oil, in a slotted tip to finish it off.
I wouldn't worry about damaging a shotgun barrel with a brass brush, since brass is softer than steel. Its nearly impossible to scratch steel with brass. Im sure steel wool is also a softer steel than that found in a shotgun barrel, and over time, may actually polish the bore.

steel vs. chrome

You are absolutely correct. If my barrel was plain steel inside, I'd brush it without a second thought. But it's not. It's been chromed like the bumpers on a 1960's car. I wouldn't dare take a brass brush to those bumpers, so I'm hesitant to do it to the gun (Beretta 391).

Still wondering.
