I am headed south to the Houston area to shoot in the Bob Brister Memorial Shoot at Westside Sporting Clays. I am curious if there will be very many shooters from this forum at the event. I plan to bring a gallon of my favorite beer to share on Friday or Saturday after the shooting is done. I would like to meet as many as I can.
I have been wanting to come down to this shoot for a long time. Honoring Bob Brister is fit and right to do. I grew up in Victoria and read most of his pieces in the Chronicle and Field and Stream. I have one copy of Shotgunning the Art and Science in my office and another one near my desk at home.
Brister made me a duck hunter with a December 1963 article in the Chronicle about the arrival of the ducks on the Katy, Hockley, Eagle Lake coastal prairie. I read the piece on Sunday morning at 6AM and was hunting ducks by 3PM. I hunted every day I could that Vacation.
