Is Winchester AA worth $2.00 more a box than Bornaghi Gold? I have shot AA for years, and have never shot Bornaghi Gold. I am not a pattern guy. I am just curious if AA can command a $20 per flat justification.
I’ve shot the Gamebore Rose Gold and White Gold both and I'm impressed by them. The Bornaghi’s are great shells too but are they subject to having the smaller shot when shooting the #8’s ?? I know several people say that the Euro shells have smaller #8 shot than the American shells in #8.
Let’s not forget about the antimony content / shot hardness factors. I’m pretty sure that AA’s and Remington Nitros have graded out hard Federal right behind them. In a sport where we’ve all seen the golden BB break a target it could play a factor. If I’m just out messing around with my friends it doesn’t matter, if I have paid $250 for a two day shoot it matters. My confidence in the shells I don’t have to worry about.
So at the end of the day if I’m shooting a local fun shoot with my friends I feel good about using most import shells , if I’m shooting a state , regional, or National shoot I’m reaching for the AA’s. Just to eliminate any distractions that I don’t need.
I’ll say this , all the talk of the shell being better than the shooter , well I don’t think any of the top contenders in our sport are shooting Gun Clubs , Estates , or even Super Targets.
Clevers are about the same price as AA’s at my local shop. I don’t mind shooting them but if they are only a few pennies difference in a box I’m going with the AA’s.
