Do any of you clay shooters out there have any experience with the Browning 802ES clays package? It seems appealing but apparently didn't sell well and has been discontinued. Was it flawed? What's the story? I have a chance to buy one but I'm leery. I have found this forum extremely helpful on other matters. Thanks a lot.
I have an 802es. The gun shoots fine when you use the shorter tubes. I have a problem with the longer choke tubes, the point of impact seem to be different. I just use the short tubes and standard invectors pluses.
I have a 802ES and have shot a lot of SC with it. I wasn't looking for one when I came across it at a store but liked the feel of it and felt I could shoot it. I thought the idea of the longer choke tubes to change the swing weight at different stations was ridiculous (the last thing I want to do is make big changes in my gun between stations). I sold the 4 longer tubes on-line and bought a set of 6 Trulock extended SC chokes. The gun is fast handling as it is fairly light and has the 28 inch barrel. The stock is quite high without much drop which appealed to me as I am used to trap guns. One thing that did not work out at all (and this is common to many models of Browning SC guns) was the rock hard solid rubber recoil pad. I replaced it with a Kick-Ezz and also changed the pitch (personal preference as I like it set up pretty square).
Can I put a follow up question on the 802? On the barrel extentions, I assume the are just extentions and not just extra long extended choke tubes? Are they threaded to accept invector plus chokes so that if I got the shorter ones I could put them on any Citori that uses invector tubes?
No, they are just very long and fairly heavy Invector-Plus choke tubes in the Stainless finish. They actually increase the overall length by 2 inches and 4 inches per set (the guns also came with some flush tubes and that is how they got their name ---802ES stands for the last digit in 28 and 30 and 32 and the ES stands for Easy Swing).. They would work in any Inv-Plus choked gun but not in the standard Invecor choked Citori.
