Hello A5 lovers. I have an unusual question...
I recently acquired a European only A5, serial no. Y42xx.... yes its one of the "Y" series. 16ga 2-3/4, full vent rib, filled barrel ring (set 16???) and is all numbers matching. Had it out once this season and what a pleasure to carry! Light, came with sling swivels and a raised cheek rest and shoots where I point which is unusual for me.
One weird thing about this gun is the trigger assembly, which is entirely in the white except for a gold trigger and a blued safety button. The serial number on the assembly matches the gun so I know it's original to the firearm. It does not appear to have been stripped. Anyone have any idea about this? On the one hand I'd like to have it blued to match the rest of the gun; on the other hand, if this is how it came from FN, I won't change it.
In addition, the stock finish is badly worn/cracked/chipped so I will be refinishing the wood. Good news is that there is only a very small crack of perhaps 1" in the forend which I will address with acra-glass. I do not intend to put a high gloss finish on this as first, I don't like goods finishes and second, this is a working gun for me. Any idea what the factory used for the finish or what might best strip the existing finish?
Anyway, any information including year of manufacture (which seems uncertain for the y series) would be most welcome.
