First off, please understand I am just a recreational shooter of Sporting Clays. I love the sport.

Recently I purchased from Guns Unlimited in Omaha a new Browning Sporting Clays Special Edition in 20 ga. I did a good deal of InterNet research prior to this purchase, including on ShotgunWorld. There is an older post here on the gun. The folks at Guns Unlimited, who are the only dealer offering this model, were great.

I decided on the model with the standard high vented rib and adjustable comb. After adjusting the cast on the comb, I took it over to the Ben Avery Range just North and West of Phoenix and shot two of their four SC courses. After about 125 rounds, I love this gun! At one point I went 23 straight, which is utterly amazing for the likes of me, as I am typically a 3 for 4 shooter at best on most stands.

The gun was not cheap, but it is a beautiful, sweet shooter, and I cannot wait to take it out to the Rio Salado course this week. I may sleep with this gun! 😀

I am interested in some more recent feedback on this gun from you “more serious shooters“ who have experience with this gun.

Thanks for your input.

Congratulations - and Welcome!

I agree, the folks at Guns Unlimited are great.

The Sporting Clays Special Editions are not inexpensive but, they are beautiful AND sweet shooters.

Looking forward to hearing about more success for you with it (outside your bedroom)!

David,
I have a ssce that I use for both trap and occasional sporting clays. I love the gun and when I quit shooting will pass it down to one of my sons.
I shoot trap in Casa Grande and only get to BA couple times per year but love shooting there.

I have the same model in 20,28, and .410. I shoot mainly skeet and prefer my 12ga Fabarm with 7/8 reloads. If decent weather ever arrives I will get the Browning out of the safe and try to make friends with them. If I had to do it over I am not sure if I would get the ,410. I reload everything but .410 and @$20 plus for shells It does not get much use.

Got any pics of that beauty?
Here you go. My only complaint was a common one for this gun, the recoil pad, thin and hard. That was solved with an off the shelf LimbSaver. 30” ported barrels, adjustable trigger that feels like about a 2-3 lb pull. Beautiful wood, too. I would like to know why Browning only sells them through Guns Unlimited, although their service is great.

Did you know the Sporting Clays National Championship will be held down at Coyote Springs ranges on the Tucson Trap and Skeet Club in two weeks? We are going down just to watch on 3/30 and check out the vendors.

I have the same set and really like them, the 28 is my go to gun on a normal sporting course.

HOWEVER..... watch closely for rusting issues around the mid rib primarily on the 28 and 410 barrels. Mine has developed this about 6 months ago and gets worse with each day. The barrels rust regardless of what or how you do anything. It's been to Browning and they "cleaned" it and sent it back but it was rusted when it got back to me. I'm currently in communication with the Customer Service manager AND the Service Manager to see what they will do to replace the barrels. The gun is NOT kept in the case so that's ruled out.....
