The Browning Gold is the most successful gas semi-auto shotgun Browning has ever produced, by a huge margin. It is also the most successful semi-auto Browning has produced since the A-5.
The Belgium made "Gold Series" includes not just the label of Gold, but all of the Winchester branded SX2 and SX3 shotguns as well. Call it a Gold, a Silver, or a Winchester SX2 / SX3 . . . it is a huge hit, and is not going away soon. Sure, there will be new models (we seem to like that) and discontinued models, meaning last year's production more than a change in the action. The number of "discontinued" Citori models is staggering, but the basic Citori action has not changed.
I'd expect the Gold to be around, in one form or another for many, many years.

If that is the case, it is a change from a few weeks ago. I'll ask Browning management what the current position is.
There is only one consistent reason why guns are discontinued; sales and profits. History repeats itself again and again.
We "said" we loved the Model 12, the A-5, the Ithaca Model 37. We still say that. But, we seldom mean what we say . . . or vote for what we say with the only vote that ever counts, the vote we make when we make a purchase.
It is very difficult to make a radical distinction between the Gold / Silver / SX2 / SX3. Same platform, same action. If there are less "Gold" sku's for 2008, and more "Silver" sku's-- it just means that "we" voted for the Silver.
