I have a Browning Gold "Golden Clays" shotgun that I bought used. I've had it for a while, but haven't shot it much. This morning I removed the plug that limits the magazine to three rounds, and loaded the gun to make sure it would hold four with a fifth in the chamber. I then unloaded it by working the action, but when I closed the bolt on the empty chamber, the bolt handle flew off. When I picked it up off the floor, I noticed I could easily slide it in and out of its slot. But after I worked the action a few more times, I could no longer remove the bolt handle; it was firmly in place as it should be. Now I'm worried this problem will rear its ugly head when I'm at the range. I'll appreciate any advice. Thanks!

The bolt handle on the Gold does not come out unless you push up the cartridge stop on the bottom of the bolt. Make sure the groove does not have a burr on it that would keep it from locking in. Also pull out the bolt and look at the bottom half. Make sure the cartridge stop moves up and down freely. It's spring loaded so it should stay in the down position.

Thanks for the advice. I'll pull the thing apart this weekend. It needs a good cleaning, anyway.
