I am thinking of buying a Browning Light Twelve, serial # 55807, made in Belgium. The "date your gun" section of Browning's web site does not appear to have any serial number format like this one. Does anybody know when this gun was made? Any quirks about the gun?

Here's an excerpt from a PM from Bwivada .... There is no letter prefix or suffix to the serial number, just 55807. All I can say is EGAD! 1928! This is quite a shock. I guessed the gun was made in the 50's. Why 1928 and not earlier or later? If you have time to reply to this, please do so on the regular ID forum because other guys I know are interested.

Well if it had been in the later 50's it would have had the alpha and prob the numerial coding ...
here's a reference source for A-5 dating that is more complete than the Browning site... http://store.bluebookinc.com/FrameSet.a ... ialize.pdf
