A friend of mine loaned me his 20 and 28 gauge Chambermates. I had good luck shooting the 20 gauge set at a shoot in Nashville. My curiosity was piqued and I decided to pattern them. All patterns were done at 40 yards. For 20 gauge, I used factory Winchester Super Sporting 7 ½'s. The Chambermates were in a Beretta 32" 12 gauge Optima barrel with a Beretta factory extended modified choke. I also patterned my Beretta 391 20 ga with 28" barrels and a Briley extended modified choke. For 28 gauge, I used factory Remington Nitro 7 ½'s. The Chambermates were in the same 32" Optima barrel with modified choke. I also patterned a Beretta 30" Mobile choke barrel fitted on a 682 Beretta, with a Briley flush modified choke. For purposes of the patterning, I assumed that there at 350 pellets in an ounce of 7 ½'s and that the factory loads had 306 pellets (20 ga) and 263 pellets (28 ga). I shot 4 patterns for each combination with a 5th pattern for the 20 ga Chambermates. After drawing a 30" circle around the densest part of the pattern, I counted. The results are:
20 ga Chambermates 66.3%, 69.3%, 66.7%, 57.5%, 67%. Average 65.4%
20 ga 391 66.7%, 65.4%, 70.6%, 66.7%. average 67.4%
28 ga Chambermates 63.5%, 60.1%, 69.6%, 52.5%. average 61.4%
28 ga 30" Mobile choke 60.5 %, 68.8%, 66.2%, 55.6%. average 62.8%
I don't understand why Chambermates work. Your results may vary.

Not yet. I did have problems using reloaded Remington STS hulls in the 20 ga Chambermates. If larger O rings don't work, I may buy 20 ga barrels for my 682 instead. I am waiting before I order the 28 ga to 410 Chambermates so I only have to pay one shipping charge.
