Trying to crank this up again, it's been fun before.

My view is that Bama and Jawja dominate the SEC, and the Gators are the sleeper that could upset Kirby's gang. And A&M might be a dark horse.

Among the lesser clans, the Buckeyes will be undefeated without Urban, and better when he comes back from exile. Wisconsin looks good, and I hope the Spartans do well.

Clemson owns the ACC, and they are almost as good as Klempson fans think they are. I have a feeling that Taggart is on the verge of doing as well at FSU as Mullen is likely to do at UF.

Sooners win their conf., I think. And John will have to sign in to refresh my memory of that conference designation, and to excoriate the Longwhorns.

Washington in the PAC? I doubt it, but I'm not confident of that call.

Army beats Navy again.

And I look forward to seeing the Slippery Rock scores again...

Thanks for cranking this up again Joe - I barely made it through the A&M game last night against some high school team from Louisiana. God the SEC Network announcers are awful. The game was a blowout so they spent the entire second half yakking about the on field guy wearing football pants and having a wierd hair do 10 years ago! No doubt it wasn't great football watching the 3rd and 4th strings, but the team is so young I wanted to see them so I can get an idea of the future stars or busts :x :x :x

Now that I got my rant out of the way............

The Aggies are just starting on the uphill journey - but I'm hopeful. I don't expect more than 7-8 wins this season, but I'm pleased with what I saw. TIGHT ENDS!! TWO OF THEM on the field at the same time!! At least one of them is a damned good receiver. Running plays actually going vertical instead of sideways! Sophomore QB Kellen Mond is a completely different signal caller now that our $75 million dollar coach got ahold of him. And a FULLBACK! Cullen Gillaspia, the actual 12th Man, has been converted to a fullback! The Air Raid offense is now history! The best I can say is I'm hopeful for the future - they're gonna be good.

I fear the Ags are going to be taken to school next weekend - we have Clemson at Kyle Field. Hope they are good students.

'Bama and the Dawgs - yeah probably, but there will be some surprises along the way. Florida and Auburn and maybe South Carolina and Missouri.

Now for the only other conference I follow - at least until late season - the vaunted Big 12(-2-2+1+1). You're right Joe - the Sooners are the class of the league again. But the Dawgs aptly illustrated the gap between the best of the SEC and the best of the
Big 12(-2-2+1+1) in the playoffs. Nothing has changed in that regard.

Everybody else in that league is an unknown at this point. The Longwhorns are always touted (by the Fake News Media) as potential playoff teams every year and they have done nothing but fizzle out since Mack Brown was kicked to the curb. But you can expect Tom Herman to plant plenty of smooches on the cheeks of his players again this season. Kansas State, Oklahoma State, and TCU are the sleepers.

This weekend's games will be interesting and fun to watch - well some of them. Miami at LSU, Washington at Auburn, Louisville at 'Bama, Michigan at Notre Dame, West Virginia at Tennessee, Texas at Maryland are the premier games.

And the season is ON!

Early Update

The mighty 23rd ranked ( :w ) Longwhorns (Big 12-2-2+1+1) fall for the second year in a row to the Maryland Terps (B1G, 4-8 last season) by a 5 point margin - 34-29.

Earlier today, Ole Miss (SEC) took one from Texas Tech (Big 12-2-2+1+1) by 20 - 47-27.

Sipping a little Buffalo Trace and flipping back and forth between Auburn - Washington and Tennessee - West Virginia.

False confidence is preferable to no confidence at all.

Also, you need to remember that Crimson is one of the red hues...

The only thing good about Alabama, is the quail hunting at Alger Flats :D :D :D :D :D :D

The south is pretty solidly Republican
The best college football in the country
Bourbon is a product of the south

That's just a few off the top of my head......

See, guys? I told you this would be fun!

And Chuck, pay close attention on your way to Flawda: Whenyou cross that Mason-Dixon Line, there is an old, weather-beaten sign welcoming you with the reminder "All ye who set foot here, put off the shoes from on thy feet, for the ground whereon ye stand is Holy Ground!"

And good luck to the Huskers. It would e good to see them doing well again.

I have never seen that sign, I will be on the lookout for it, I will be in Chelsa Al in mid October, is that anywhere near you?

No, Chelsea is in Shelby County, just south of Birmingham. But it's not far at all from Tuscaloosa. I'll call Nick and let him know you're in town for the weekend, if you'd like.

#25 LSU (SEC) leading #8 Miami (ACC) 27-3 at halftime

I'm trying to figure out why Miami is ranked in the Top 10, even if it is the pre-season poll. Of course I was wondering about the Longwhorn's ranking too.

I hate to burst your bubble cdb, but Nebraska isn't even the best red team in the B1G West. That distinction belongs to the Red Menace from the evil state that separates God's Country (that would be Minnesota) from Illinois and Lake Michigan.

First game of consequence today -
#18 Mississippi State (SEC) at Kansas State (Big 12 (-2-2+1+1)), also formerly known as the Big Dumpster Fire (BDF) in Manhattan's Bill Snyder Family Stadium. MSU leads early - 3-0 in the first quarter.

Next up - UCLA (Pac 12) at Oklahoma (BDF). Pulling for the upset in this one.

In an all SEC match-up - #3 Georgia at #24 South Carolina. Both teams ranked in the Top 25. I'm neutral in this one in deference to my good friends Kannoncocker and Barrelsquared. Good luck to the Dawgs and the Gamecocks - this should be a good one. :!:

Also at 3:30, one of the more inconsequential games of the day, Colorado will take on Nebraska in Lincoln. Yes, that's right, the two schools that turned the Big 12 into the Big Dumpster Fire, meet for, I believe, the first time since their exodus. This is a "who cares?" game except for my friend cdb and the Huskers are 3 point favorites.

And finally, the most important game of the day (night) - #2 Clemson visits the loud and dreaded home of the 12th Man, Kyle Field, as the Tigers take on the Aggies of Texas A&M. Clemson is favored by 12, but watch out for the upset. Lee Corso dared to insult Miss Reveille on Game Day by picking Clemson, so the Aggies will be out for blood.

Thanks for the tip of your cap to the Cocks, JER, but we're barely ranked, only because so many teams fell flat last week. Our best hope is to fight hard every down, and keep on improving. We aren't the caliber of the Dawgs. Yet.

Good luck with the Tiggers (whose local nickname has been "the Cleminals").

I just hope that I don't have to leave the TV and go cut grass...

Georgia v South Carolina wasn't as close as I thought it would be - in fact it was brutal. The Gamecocks put up a fight and at times showed some stellar football, but just didn't have it for the full 60 minutes. Early season still, but the Dawgs look dang good!
