I went down that road twice this past summer. I came to the conclusion after shooting both it was a easy decision. Benelli. More dependable with no rib falling off as I`ve personally seen several do and there is no difference in recoil with this particular gun. I`m not at all saying the beretta is a bad gun...its far from it. But what you buy may not be what anyone else on this board recommends. Just make sure it fits you.

i had this own delima recently. i shot both and found both guns very nice. i had no problems with jamming on either and i fired a wide range of shells through both. the benelli was a little cheaper after nego. price on both. they both fit nice but i did like the gel pad on the beretta most.
after a lot of thought i went with the beretta teknys gold sporting. i picked it for only 2 reasons.
1- i work with carbon fiber a good bit and it is very strong but it will crack and stress fracture over time. now my carbon fiber experience is not with gun stocks but shotguns do have some very strong harmonic viberations.
2- wieght. i just felt the beretta was a better swing. the beretta is a little over 1/2 pound heavier and just felt smoother in my opinion.
i'm sure with either i could get comfortable but that was the decision i made. always keep in mind that which gun is up to you. you have to shoot it to know which one fits the best. if one was best for everyone the other would not be needed.
the benelli kicks like a clydesdale so keep that in mind. lol  sorry i had too but in all reality the recoil on both wasn't bad. it never influenced my decision.
i don't see how you could go wrong with either.
this is my first post so don't beat me up to bad. i've been lurking and you guys seem to be the best shotgun forum so i decided to sign up. :D

Funny how my carbon fiber stocked rifle has never broken its stock, but my wood-stocked ones can't say the same.

In any case, has anyone looked inside the "carbon fiber" stock of the Benelli Supersport? I have a feeling that such is not a true carbon fiber stock, but merely an injection molded stock just like the SBE2 and M2 dipped in a carbon fiber lookalike film.

I'd like to know if the layup plies are visible inside the stock cavity, or is just plain black in there.

Yeah I`ve been in my supersport changing shims. Its not like the raptor carbon stock which is only wrapped with carbon fiber...it is a true carbon fiber stock.

How about saving yourself a lot of money and buying a plain jane 391 Urika Sporting. Mechanically it is identical to the Technys and you can get them for under $1,000. Use the extra money and buy a bunch of shells.

I've got 5 different 391s in my gun safe and I've shot probably over 30,000 shells through all of them. Two of them have never jammed (one of them is the most heavily used and the other has less than 500 shells through it). One has jammed once and the other has jammed twice (this was after shooting more than 1,000 shells in a single day).

Both models are well made and reliable. The Benelli will be a lot easier to clean. I belive this model has the Montefeltro/Legacy magazine tube which is no fun to clean the inside of. The Benelli is lighter mostly due to the fact that this 391 model has a recoil reducer in the stock. Most tend to think a gas auto will offer less felt recoil. Fit has more to do with felt recoil and both models do come with shims to adjust the fit of the stock. The Beretta is a much more popular clay model. Not that you base you decesion off that. It does however have more aftermarket parts if you want to add shell catchers, etc..
Either way is a good choice. Pick the one that YOU like best.
