I did!! For the first time in a couple years I went trap shooting. After about a 20 year lay-off four clubs are getting together to revive the Hangover Trap League. I shoot for the skeet team at one of them so what the heck. Today was the first shoot and happened to be at my club. There's a total of eight shoots, two at each club, and a shoot-off. $2/week/shooter goes to prizes, so I don't think many ringers are going to spoil the fun. All four of these clubs are just around the north end of Seneca Lake from me. Three are within 10 miles and one I've never been to is maybe 30 miles down some beautiful country roads. I hope spring gets here because the top-down Mustang is ready to roll!

I don't think I ever posted a pic of my home-made custom trap gun. I found this in a little Mom & Pop gun shop when I was killing time at the Waverly NY Auto Auction. Paid $200 NIB never fired. It's the Nat. Wild Turkey Foundation raffle gun from 2007 made by H&R. I put the custom pad on with a spacer for some extra LOP, not a bad do-it-yourself effort, if I must say so! I added some serious weight in the stock, those H&R's kick like mules! Got a hammer extension, an IM choke, and I load really light 7/8 oz. loads.

First station today I missed three birds, then nailed 18/20 the rest of the way. I kinda forgot how to float the birds. Ended up with a 37/50. I'll take it. I had a blast!.........................the Mailman

Hey, Maggs! Did you know there's states where you can't register a pick-up truck unless you hang one of them-thar handi rifles in the rear window gun rack??......................the Mailman

See! We've got stuff to talk about! I have to start fasting tonight. Routine blood work in the A.M. Since the draw station is right around the corner, I stopped by today to get the pee cup. Much easier at home than at the office after a 12 hr fast.

Now, that's getting off topic.......................the Mailman

I'm scheduled to shoot the 2nd round of the Hangover Skeet League today. I've got two other shoots already scheduled this weekend and this league lets you shoot Sunday A.M. or Thursdays from 5-8:00 P.M. What with today being an ethnic holiday, I hope the club is set up for shooting and not a party. I've never been to this one before.

What I'm also preparing for is how NY State has a huge Stop-DWI program running any time they think people might be having fun. It's supposed to be rain-free today so I'm going to run the Mustang GT to the club. I won't touch a drop, so I hope I don't get "profiled" by some over-zealous Seneca Co deputy on my way there or back. If I was ever stopped for 'suspicion' of DWI and no other reason, I know I'd be one uncooperative, mouthy SOB. As the comedian Ron White says, "I knew I had the right to remain silent, I just didn't have the ability!"...................the Mailman

I shot the last skeet match of our winter league this morning. Not good!! I hope I find my game for the shoot-off next month. So tomorrow I'll try my hand at SC. By the time I'm done I'll have shot trap, skeet, & SC all within the last four days. With all that shooting, you'd think I'd break more clays than I do??!!......................the Mailman

I'm in the middle of re-tuning a Weihrauch HW50s air rifle. The procedure is fairly simple, but the moly grease used to 'lube tune' the innards makes for one messy job. Definitely going through a couple pairs of rubber gloves before I'm done..................the Mailman

Nice doubles, Leftie. I really like the 12, she's a beauty.

I just installed a new muzzle brake on my HW50s air rifle and zeroed it. I'm more and more impressed all the time with these precision German AG's. I took off the front globe sight and installed the brake and it changed the POI by about an inch at just 10 meters. These guns can be very picky about ammo as well as how they're held and rested when shooting. I've been enjoying the time in the Mancave getting my trio in synch. This summer I plan on setting up a bait 'n shoot range off the back porch with house flies as the target at 30'. What do you guys think would be the best bait, strawberry jam or Shih Tzu poop. I've got plenty of both............................the Mailman

I gotta ask, seriously, cdb, with all the bangbang you do, what do you wear for ear protection? I wear electric muffs when I shoot clays (I like to hear what's being said) and some solid plug-ins when I'm doing rimfires by myself. I had my hearing checked a couple yrs ago and it was fine for my age, even though Mrs. Mailman disagreed with their findings............................the Mailman

A couple buddies have those ear-doctor-molded-custom-fit plugs and say they're great. They should be for the better part of $250!!! Another guy puts a pair of those throw-away foam plugs in 'gently' and then puts electric muffs over them and says that some high roller ear doc he used to shoot with said that combo is the best.

I think I'll go with what I've been doing. You see, the voices in my head have said they MUST be heard!!!!!.......................the Mailman

Since it's opening day for the only team, playing the only game that really matters, I did a couple of annual rituals. First I got out the beautiful Boston Redsox golf ball marker that Mrs. Mailman gave me years back and put it in my pocket where it will be carried until the final out of the 2016 World Series, or until the Sox have played their last game this year. Which ever comes first? Then I trudged out to the front yard through probably 3-4 inches of fresh snow to drop the stars & stripes from my flag pole so I can proudly fly my Redsox team flag. Somehow it doesn't look quite right, waving in the breeze with a winter wonderland in the background!!..........................the Mailman

I rebuilt an air gun backstop I threw together a few years ago. I only used materials off the scrap pile, felt like MacGuyver. The unit is going in one of the windows in my storage shed. At Wally World I picked up a little 5'x7' Coleman portable canopy with curtains on two sides to keep my bench out of sight. I'll have a 50' range where I'm shooting through the window into the backstop that is inside my shed. VERY safe! I checked with local 5-0 and they said being discreet is going to be a good idea. Even my side and back neighbors won't be able see what I'm doing, not that they'd care. I'm the unofficial squirrel/chipmunk regulator already. When everything is done I'll have to post a pic. Right now, I think I'll order a new gun......................the Mailman

I just ordered a Weihrauch HW95 in .22 cal. Also got a Williams peep sight with the target apperture. Tomorrow I order some inserts to fit the globe front sights on these German gems. The factory inserts are thick and obstruct the view of the target.

The factory ones are on top, the bottom ones are from a Lee Shaver set. I've got a guy that can custom make them to fit my guns. I'm ordering extras for a couple forum members from an airgun site. That crosshair one makes a peep sight look like a 1X scope. Very cool stuff!......................the Mailman

Played 12 holes of golf. Bought 400 shares of Smith & Wesson and 150 shares of Sturm/Ruger. Now it's time to dial in the fresh trigger job on my Walther LGU @ 20 yds. Might have to skip my afternoon nap...........................the Mailman

I finished the trigger job on my Walther LGU air rifle, again! After picking up a few more tips from some U-tube how-to videos (Hey, I saw it on the internet. It's gotta work!!) I finally just took the thing apart, voiding my lifetime warranty and went to work. These air gun triggers have multiple seers and all my contact points got honed using my Work Sharp knife sharpener and honing oil. I made a new adjustment screw to take out all the creep that the stock one produced and lightened the trigger weight spring by removing a little top hat that comes from the factory and probably kept some lawyer happy. The trigger now has a fairly long, smooth first stage and breaks clean and crisp at a little over a lb. Here's a pic of the LGU with my Weihrauch hw50s in the foreground:

These are the targets I shoot. This one was with a Beeman R7 at 10 yds. I hope to match that with the LGU outdoors at 20 yds.

What makes me think there aren't many guys on this forum that DIDN'T have a Daisy as a kid. Especially those of us that actually remember Sputnik, Leave It To Beaver, and Mickey Mantle. I'm just really glad I never put my eye out....................the Mailman
