I think I remember Bodie doing that at Alger Flats. I also remember him retrieving 3 quail at one time.

Meant to mention on the hunt from last weekend that Fritz was mid retrieve when he locked up on another point. Bird in his mouth, pointed another 6 wild birds. Pretty happy with that!

Fritz is one good dog, a real pleasure to hunt behind.

Went out and snow blowed the driveway, the Cub Cadet 3 stage thrower made quick work of the snow.

Gotta be honest with you cdb, for what little snow you got there, I would have just used a shovel.

Well, with the 2 knee replacements, and the driveway slanted, and icy, the snowblower was a welcome 3rd leg so to say, I was much steadier walking behind it than I would have been shoveling. The absolute last thing I need is to take a tumble, and twist my recently replaced knee.

Thanks, Chuck. Kind of you to say. More of the load is being shifted to him. Clyde hunted pretty hard last weekend and was kinda sore and limpy for a couple of days afterwards.

I took Rebel and Dan over to Spring River Hunts of Kansas today and got chukars for them as the quail haven't been flying well lately. I had the owner, Phil, put out three birds for Rebel and then three for Dan. They both did a great job, hitting the scent cone way out and pointing beautifully, holding steady on point and retrieving to hand. The wind was gusting to 40 mph and the birds really scooted if they flushed downwind, but it was six up and six down for a great day (one hour) of hunting. I need to try to get them out next week and the following weekend we have a field trial, so they should be getting plenty of work.

Got out to the game preserve today with my son, daughter, and one of my sons friends. Put out 4 chukar, 16 pheasants, we put up 16 birds total missed 3 no shot on one due to low flight and the dogs. My son's 2 chessies and my yellow lab in a snowstorm put in good work. Shot my new 555 Savage 20 gauge once I figured out the shell combination, Kent fast lead 3" 6s, tore birds out of the air...Tough conditions today for sure but fun nonetheless and broke in a new smoke pole..?

Cleaned up the reloading area after church, watching Gunsmoke on INSP, and Abby is snuggled up beside me.

You do have a point on the TKRs. I contracted with a guy for plowing this winter, but I have been forced to shovel/blow a couple times (once with the blower to clear a 2 1/2 foot tall berm at the end of the driveway, because the city plow came through after my guy plowed, and the other time to clear a 3" thick glacier that had formed on the driveway because his plow didn't get all the way down to the asphalt). I had to be careful both times to ensure I didn't tear up what my surgeon repaired.

Yes, I would hate like (you know what) if I had to start all over again because I did something stupid, which by the way, I am very good at doing. :ROFLMAO:

Went to the club today and shot 100 rounds at SC. This was my load for the Georgia hunt, worked perfectly in the A5 Sweetsixteen. Going to load up 3-4 boxes.

Went out to a game farm yesterday and put out six birds. Took along one of my daughters neighbors who loves to pheasant hunt and we had a great time. Dogs ended up getting 10 birds up and we got 7 of them. Great day !

Think about your ammo . 70 birds times 6 hunts for three gunners. I'm taking a flat of one ounce #8's and even considered 2 flats, But working my dogs, I'll be flushing the birds and will therefore likely have a valid shot at most birds. I could envision possibly 2 boxes a hunt if you took all the shots that are ethically yours. You can always bring the extra ammo back, but good luck on finding 16 ga ammo out in the sticks if you run out.

You are correct, I think I will load up 500 rounds of #8 shot, like you said, can always bring some home. ❗ ❗ ❗

Took the “boys” for their post season vet check out. All went well. Regarding Clyde’s recent bout of limping about: working dog + large dog + 10 years = osteoarthritis. Now on a joint supplement for life and anti inflammatory PRN. Went ahead and started Fritz on the joint supplement as well. Clyde should be feeling better quickly. Considering the miles he’s put in, the vet expected this sooner. Also, staying trim has helped prolong his joint health.

Mike, I hope the boys are going to be ok. With the drive and desire Clyde has to hunt, it will probably be hard to keep him down. It is amazing how good bird dogs just keep going, and love to hunt.
