I did!! For the first time in a couple years I went trap shooting. After about a 20 year lay-off four clubs are getting together to revive the Hangover Trap League. I shoot for the skeet team at one of them so what the heck. Today was the first shoot and happened to be at my club. There's a total of eight shoots, two at each club, and a shoot-off. $2/week/shooter goes to prizes, so I don't think many ringers are going to spoil the fun. All four of these clubs are just around the north end of Seneca Lake from me. Three are within 10 miles and one I've never been to is maybe 30 miles down some beautiful country roads. I hope spring gets here because the top-down Mustang is ready to roll!

I don't think I ever posted a pic of my home-made custom trap gun. I found this in a little Mom & Pop gun shop when I was killing time at the Waverly NY Auto Auction. Paid $200 NIB never fired. It's the Nat. Wild Turkey Foundation raffle gun from 2007 made by H&R. I put the custom pad on with a spacer for some extra LOP, not a bad do-it-yourself effort, if I must say so! I added some serious weight in the stock, those H&R's kick like mules! Got a hammer extension, an IM choke, and I load really light 7/8 oz. loads.

First station today I missed three birds, then nailed 18/20 the rest of the way. I kinda forgot how to float the birds. Ended up with a 37/50. I'll take it. I had a blast!.........................the Mailman

Well I got 200 more loaded today, probably finish up tomorrow.

Finished up, got 500 rounds of 16 Ga 1 ounce #8 loaded up for the Quail hunt.

I'm impressed. If you're gonna fire 500 rounds, I think I'll just stand behind you and watch. What chokes will you be using? Do you mike them, or just trust the manufacturer on the specs?

I used to pattern them, but the farm is in Illinois, so I only get to pattern every once in a while. I take the guns to the club, and shoot SC with them. If my scores don't change much, I figure they are good to go. If I can break a clay target at 30-40 yards, I can drop a pheasant or quail at the same distance. I put a LM in the gun, and that is what I stick with. I will probably bring a full complement of tubes with me, for close birds behind pointing dogs, I will probably go with Cylinder, or IC. I will probably be lucky if I shoot 2 boxes. The rest will be used shooting Sporting Clays during the course of the year. Rex said he is contemplating bringing 2 flats, don't want him to out gun me

First, thanks for the heads up about the water situation. I will be prepared.

Next, I don’t know if you guys are kidding or not; but, if y’all are ever considering the possibility of running through 400 to 500 rounds I am kind of flabbergasted.

If I shoot 2 boxes, I will be completely shocked ❗ ❗But I do plan on shooting SC along the way home, with Joe in Alabama, then I will be scouting out some SC courses in Tennessee, and Kentucky along I65 to shoot at on the way home. So I could possibly need 300 rounds for that.

I've got two flats of Herter's #8 shot @ 1165 fps (the old purple hull) I've been setting on for several years. With 420 birds put out over the three days of hunting, i can easily envision shooting a flat as one of the three man party, especially being the dog handler and flushing all the birds. The extra flat is coming along just in case it's needed. Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. I wany my gunners to be shooting if they have a safe, ethical shot at these birds, and I intend to do the same.

Remember these are pen raised preserve birds that once put out will probably be eaten by us or some predator, it's not like overshooting a wild covey to where they can't survive the winter. I've seen pen raised birds starving to the point they're too weak to fly and wild quail in the same area doing great and flying strong. My view is that being put out in the field is a death sentence for the birds and the only issue is whether they're eaten by us or a predator.

Yep, 70 birds per hunt for three hunters and 6 hunts over the three day stay. Do the math, 420 birds. Mind boggling is that is 840 quail for our group. Better bring a large freezer too.

Wasn't today, but yesterday morning. Son (11) helped fully strip and clean his A400 12 ga. Let it go 875-900 shots with minor cleaning as a test. Functioned fine throughout the test, but very cruddy with carbon build up on the piston area. Not that hard to clean up with good solvent and the proper tools.
With SCTP starting, we'll go 500 between full strip and cleans and always before tournaments.
15.5K through it so far and running well.

Went to the club today, shot the Sweetsixteen, getting trade for the hunt, going to shoot it a couple more times before the hunt.

I went back to the High Point website and took another look at their pricing page on the hunts and saw that the 70 bird package for three shooters is an all-day hunt with a lunch break in there. They also have half day hunts where three hunters get 35 birds. Not sure if they put all 70 birds out at once on and then you hunt all day or it is just two half day hunts for 35 birds, but there is a lunch break on the all day hunts. Any way you look at it, it's going to be right at half the number of quail that I originally thought we'd be getting, or 210 birds put out over three days of hunting. That's good news for me, because I was worried about my dogs holding up hunting 420 birds over three days. They advertise Lunch available at the lodge for $10 which might be a bargain and cut way back on the driving.

I've seen you bird hunt, you may need 600 rounds

. Seriously though, doesn't it feel good to have all that loaded ammo available so you can go shooting without loading ammo

600 rounds is only 4 to 5 weeks of sporting clays. At least I will have plenty of ammunition for the hunt.

I did!
Today, after 5 weeks of sciatica, I had a steroid injection. I'm hoping to be back shooting 5 stand and walking Piper 8k steps per day soon.

In October 2021, I had ruptured two discs (L4 and L5). PT helped for 16 months, however, in November something happened, and my walking slowly ground to a halt. I hunted Piper the week between Christmas and New Years, however I couldn't do that walking since the first of the year.

It seems to be working. I'll know more tomorrow. Currently scheduled for surgery discussion in March.
We'll see how it goes.

Had my Dr appointment today, no more PT needed, next appointment is my 3 month, then yearly.

Hey guys! New guy but I did something. Well I’ve been scrolling on here for a couple of weeks now trying to learn as much as i can but i finally pulled the trigger and have began to redo my 2008 redhead deluxe in 28 gauge. I have got it completely tore down with no issues thanks to a screwdriver recommendation I found on here and ive got about 2 rounds of stripper done so far.
