I did!! For the first time in a couple years I went trap shooting. After about a 20 year lay-off four clubs are getting together to revive the Hangover Trap League. I shoot for the skeet team at one of them so what the heck. Today was the first shoot and happened to be at my club. There's a total of eight shoots, two at each club, and a shoot-off. $2/week/shooter goes to prizes, so I don't think many ringers are going to spoil the fun. All four of these clubs are just around the north end of Seneca Lake from me. Three are within 10 miles and one I've never been to is maybe 30 miles down some beautiful country roads. I hope spring gets here because the top-down Mustang is ready to roll!

I don't think I ever posted a pic of my home-made custom trap gun. I found this in a little Mom & Pop gun shop when I was killing time at the Waverly NY Auto Auction. Paid $200 NIB never fired. It's the Nat. Wild Turkey Foundation raffle gun from 2007 made by H&R. I put the custom pad on with a spacer for some extra LOP, not a bad do-it-yourself effort, if I must say so! I added some serious weight in the stock, those H&R's kick like mules! Got a hammer extension, an IM choke, and I load really light 7/8 oz. loads.

First station today I missed three birds, then nailed 18/20 the rest of the way. I kinda forgot how to float the birds. Ended up with a 37/50. I'll take it. I had a blast!.........................the Mailman

Yep, the 43. I put a crimson trace on it, and it shoots really nice. I do reload for it, I reload a 120 grain TC Lyman bullet, and a 147 grain Lyman bullet (both cast). I reload a Hollow Point for my carry load.

Officiated a wedding at the VFW in Wolcott NY for a two tour Marine from the Viet Nam days. Older brother of Mrs. Mailman's BFF. I did a great ceremony and since the groom is a pig farmer by trade, well, the buffet was outa sight!! I might have drummed up some biz for 'Rev Jeff' (not that I'm looking for work) but Roger and his bride were very thankful for my help on their special day.

What I've been doing lately is shooting skeet with a low gun. I figure I need to work on mounting the gun for dove season that opens up in a month. I've been up 5 times so far and the mount is not a problem.

Today I took Bruno the wonder dog (Kate and Marks's Lab) home after having him for a week while they were on a family fishing vacation, BUT yesterday I enhanced my home clays range with the addition of another thrower: a wheel mounted do-all Raven with remote control, which will allow us some incoming and other presentations we can't do with the two fixed position throwers due to not being able to shoot in all directions (pesky road). I needed to mow some paths and clear a little brush out in the blow down clear cut; looks like it'll work just fine (I'll try it out tomorrow).

should get us up to snuff just in time for duck season.

Put fertilizer down for fall food plots yesterday. Will try to get a couple planted after church today.
One of the plots has been a consistent producer of native American heads ever since I first started doing tillage there over 20 years ago. While I'm not a serious artifact hunter I never fail to watch the ground fairly closely when I'm doing anything in this plot. It is a very small area of about 1/4 acre that has been one of the best bowhunting spots on my farm. It's the highest point on a ridge that runs out to the edge of the bluff overlooking the Missouri River bottom land. Back in the day before the river was channelized it ran right against the bluff and this spot would have made an excellent observation point to watch the comings and goings on the river or maybe a possible camping spot. Whatever it was used for there were sure a lot of heads left there. Enough of that rambling.
Anyway I spotted these two yesterday from the tractor seat while spreading fertilizer.

Hacked my lawn off Friday morning. So much rain has made it grow way too much. Picked up a nail in a back tire on the Jeep. :twisted: Got that fixed. Ordered a new GEC pocket knife, a GEC Lick Creek 2 blade Jack, (don't tell my wife :wink: ). And got in some dog training yesterday afternoon.

The training was fun. All the dogs did very well. Tater, one of my youngsters, always amazes me to watch. He has one of the most natural soft retrieves I've seen in a very long time. Nary a feather out of place and holds until I take the bird.

I even got play with two very young pups for their first intro to birds. The little Russian Spaniel girl and a little liver and white Springer male. The little Russian quickly caught on to the whole idea of clip-wing pigeons. And is now quite enthusiastic about birds. Her retrieve is OK at this point.

The little male was very timid when shown a bird. But he's only 11 weeks old. His owner was a bit disappointed with him. So I offered to sit with the little guy and a bird for a bit. It took a good 10 minutes, but I was able to get him wound up pretty good. Good enough that he figures he don't need to share his bird. :lol: There will be much retrieving practice in a narrow hallway in his future I think.

Speaking of smoking, yesterday I smoked a venison back strap. Brined overnight, rubbed with my favorite bourbon/brown sugar and applewood smoke rubs, in the oven at 200 deg for 4 hours - on a rack tented with foil and basted with apple juice, then into the smoker for 3 hours of applewood smoke. Good stuff. Unfortunately there are no left overs - dinner last night and lunch today took care of it. :lol:

I got the steps built and put on my wife's deer blind yesterday. I also checked the trail camera when I was there and there was one nice looking buck that stayed far enough away and behind just the right amount of brush to keep from seeing his entire rack but is a decent one. Saturday, I installed nerf bars (in case you are not familiar with the term, think running boards except a round bar instead of a flat board) on my new truck since the wife was having difficulty getting in it with her short legs.

I have the tube step-up bars on my Canyon, I really like them.

The plumbers will be here today, putting in the shower/tub, plumbing for the sink, utility sink, toilet, and ejector pump today

then we will have a bathroom in the basement. No drywall or anything, so anyone using it will have to put all modesty aside :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: Linda said we will hang sheets until the wiring, and framing inspection is done. :lol:

Went to the polls and voted in the primary this evening. I suspect as usual I voted for a bunch of losers. Seems like anybody I cast a ballot for is doomed. You'd think they would stop trying to get my vote. Or pay me to vote for their opponent. :lol: :lol:

Same here on the voting thing, but then I went down to Miami and shot 3 rounds of skeet so it wasn't a wasted day.
