What is the difference if any between a bore and gage? Some times you see a gun listed as a 12 bore (mostly old side by sides) and more often you see simply 12 gage. Is there a difference or is it simple an older terminology.

Same thing. When I talk ( not when I type) tend to say "bore" but other people will say "gauge" either way its the same thing.Just depends on whose talking. When I first started shooting I was also a bit bewildered. The experienced shooters had some fun with me on this. But thats another story.
