I have the oppertunity to trade for a new Mossberg 590 with all the bells and whistles including a speed feed stock. As a dedicated 870 man, what does the Mossberg have to offer that the 870 doesn't besides the ambi safty and twin extractors? Do I really need this thing or do I just want a new toy...Hmm.

You describe exactly where I was about 7 years ago.
I am now a total Mossberg fanboy. I had the opportunity to pick up a 590A1, and I basically did it solely for kicks. I didn't think much of Mossys, and was green label snob.
After I tried it out, I really developed a liking for the slide release position. The safety didn't bother me on the 870 so much, because I always ended up replacing them with SGT units. Which leads into my next point.
I was in the process of tricking out an 870P that I had picked up, and I realized that on top of paying for metal parts that replaced plastic ones and some other enhancements for the stock 870P, I was going to spend even more money adding an extension, enlarged safety, Speedfeed stock, and GRS kit.
Then I realized that I basically got all of that in the 590A1 for less than the original 870P.
I now rock the 590A1, and the new 870P project gun got sold to a friend.
