There will be a little pain involved. Push the extractor in pretty much as hard as you can. When the extractor flat (the part that pushes on the shell) is flush with the barrel the other end will come clear of the extractor carrier and move out away from the barrel. You have to push very hard on the extractor but I can get it collapsed with my thumb. Don't force the extractor out of the carrier. When it is clear it will move out easily. CAUTION the extractor spring is pretty potent and when the end comes clear of the carrier it will usually pop out. I just removed these for cleaning the other day.
