I understand the reason the USFWS let's us use electronic calls for Snows in the Conservation Season of the spring. But I'm watching a hunting show (I'll admit I'm an Outdoor Channel Addict once the wife and kids go to sleep) and is it just me or do these electronic calls for deer seem like cheating or what.

Just thought I'd get some opinions.

Howdy JLP...I'll give an opinion. YES, they seem like cheating. Now, I know that using anything more sophisticated than teeth and fingernails for hunting involves technology. But I believe that we will need to draw a line somewhere, or the day isn't far off when one can, probably via computer before getting out of bed, instruct some 4 wheel drive robot to go out and kill a 4 pointer and bring it home wrapped and frozen.

Hunting, fishing, are activities that reconnect us with the natural world, with our own humanity if you will. If we turn the essential elements of these pursuits over to electronics, I think the reasons we do them will be lost. Not for me or thee maybe, but for the next generation. I wouldn't like to see that.

Call it cheating if you want, but as a bowhunter it could be said that shooting deer with a gun is cheating. Bowhunting is more fun to me, but some folks like faster results. I've shot plenty of deer with shotguns, but it just isn't as much fun any more. I don't use electronic calls for deer simply because I carry too darn much stuff as it is. If the technology is there, then somebody is going to use it. There are plenty of black powder guys that say you are cheating with a modern shotgun. I guess the point I'd like to make is that all of us hunters and shooters need to be tolerant of each others ways and stick together. I realize you were just making conversation, but it seemed like a good time to put my two cents in. As for the robot, I'd at least have him get a good 10 pointer and let the little ones grow up.
