About a year after buying a new Max Lion O/U, I noticed receiver was showing some signs of tarnishing. Within a couple of weeks it looked like full-blown rust. I can't figure out what the problem is. I religiously clean and oil the gun after each use. Unlike the rest of the gun which is regular blued carbon steel, the receiver appears to have some sort of electroplated silver-colored coating.

Anybody know what's going on?

Fabarm guns can sometimes have quality issues (fragility during harder use) .
You might however want to review your cleaning method if its too abrassive.
Also contact fabarm ASAP and they should fix/replace it if its the factories fault.

Not heard anything about this, mine has a carbon-looking coating over the metal surfaces. I would contact the H&K/Fabarm folks as dks suggested since it is stated in several ads/info for Fabarm "like all FABARM shotguns sold by Heckler & Koch, Red Lion and Gold Lion models are covered by a Lifetime Warranty, the only shotguns with such a guarantee."
