I just got into this sport.I started out just to practice for the upcoming bird season and wound up getting hooked.I use either red dot or clays,17 to 17.5 grains,rem sts or win aa,win209 primer,win pink wads,rem green wads.I 've just ordered 1000 green dusters,I've heard so much about them.What do you all favor?also what chokes do you like? sj

I use about any recipie that gives 1200-1250 fps with a 1 oz load. I mostly use Alliant Promo or Hodgdon Titewad but have used most powders. I mostly use the same components as you but I also reload Federal, Fiocchi, and other Reifenhauser hulls. I don't shoot much skeet any more but I use .000-.010 constiction (cyl-IC). I shoot some league trap and generally use Lt Mod (.015) or Mod (.020). I mostly shoot sporting clays and use Lt Mod the most. For FITASC it is mainly Mod and Imp Mod.

They loaded fine, but after a couple hours, some of the crimps started to open; maybe 20% of the shells. I never had that happen with Winchester, PC, or Claybuster wads. I had only loaded a few boxes of shells with them, so I gave away the rest of the 1,000 that I had bought. The guy I gave them to loaded some Gold Medals (I had loaded AA's) and he had the same problem. Haven't tried them since - anybody else ever have the problem??

I load 17.gr of Promo,Green Duster,Nobel Sports primer and 1oz of shot in a STS hull for trap. Chronos at 1180fps thru my 90T and crushes targets from any legal distance.

I use Green Dusters for 1 oz loads in Remington and Win hulls. They fit perfectly for me. I also use Green Dusters in the Federal Gold Metal hulls with 1-1/8 oz shot and Green Dot, per the Alliant data. This makes a perfect fit.

One load that fits in the new AA cases real nice is

Win 20p primer
AA hull
Winchester SL wad
1 0z 8
Internation clays powder check the hogdon website, (18.9 gr, I think)

I shoot them in an O/U, but they seem to have about the same punch as the winchester factory 1 oz loads.

i have gotten hooked on the alliant E3. i use 15.5 gr in sts hull, sts primer, pink claybuster (waa12sl clone) and 1 oz magnum 7 1/2's. i use light full in my unsingle barrel, and imp. cyl. and mod. in my o/u barrel for trap doubles. i could use a more open choke in the singles barrel, but i like to turn a solid into a vapor! the E3 costs a little more, but you use a little less, and boys, it is CLEAN! it also seems to work about as well at 20 degrees cold as 90 degrees hot. i performed involuntary cold weather testing over the years and some of the other powders, such as green dot and intl' clays don't like cold weather when loaded light.

I load Red Dot with the MEC 29-30 bushing (whatever amount of grains that is), the 1 ounce wads that carry the lowest price, whatever hulls I can get my mitts on and whatever primers the dude at the gunshop has in stock!!! How do ya like that load??? Breaks 22 or more every time!!! -Matt Latham

you are ok with that light bushing and 1 oz of shot, but you should get a scale, you might be pulling sjone's chain. until you get a scale, i would not want to go any heavier. i have loaded and shot over 3 million rounds in competition, and i use a scale. btw, i amagine there are a lot of shooters using your load, with any available components. if you have a modern gun, you will be ok. get a scale, just for other poster's peace of mind. you could probably get up to a 33 or 34 bushing before you got into critical territory. that is, any available components. this is why proof loads are so heavy!! GET A SCALE AND A BOOK!!! someday, the skeet gods may frown on you.
