Started reloading red dot 35 years ago. Then went to green dot. Went to American select because it's clean. Also stayed with alliant because it's american made.

However in the interest of saving money, I tried Rex 2. Shot up 50 lbs of the stuff. It worked very well, but was so dirty that it gummed up my k-80. The gun was misfiring on the bottom barrel. The dealer who cleaned the area around the firing pin knew right away that i'd been shooting Rex. He had 2 other k-80s with the same problem. So I'm going back to alliant. I shoot about 20K/year and get a little tired of reloading. I would rather shoot factory loads. If I reload, the wife thinks I'm saving money. I know it just lets me shoot more. :D

Hodgdon international.

Only tried it recently, but it is working and I can get it easily.

I would change, but I don't really see a reason to and the flakes are big enough so that I don't think they will get behind any loose wads in the AA hulls,if such a thing even exists.

My favorite for 12 ga is Clays; for 20 ga it is Green Dot; for 28 ga it is Universal. I make a lot of special loads, such as spreaders, light shot charge loads, etc. and sometimes siwtch to other powders for those, so I end up stocking Unique, HS-7, 1250, and Tightwad.

Has anyone ever used Dupont pwr or are they even in business anymore.
I used to shoot a lot of 700-X, but concluded that the pressure curve was too steep.

I haven't found a favorite yet,as I haven't tried them all! :D

Green Dot, is one of my favorites, so far. I have some WST-1 to try still, as well as a few pounds of Win 473AA. Just loaded a wack of shells with IMR7625, to take out and try when it warms up a tad.

Powder in Canada, is very expensive to buy. With the few gunshops around the selection of bulk (8lb) is very limited.
As an example 8lbs of universal clays is $199.99 or $30.00 for a 1lb bottle. Red or Green Dot is $189.00 for 8lbs., when you can get them! For some powders they have to be shipped, so you can add frieght costs as well. Its a dang shame....

Cant you just drive down to the states and buy it at a big shoot at a decent price and take it back across the border?
Driller, I can purchase reloading components in the US, but am limited to how much I can bring back in to Canada. 8lbs powder, 5000 primers maximum. I believe I can bring back any quantity of shot, but I must pay duty, and taxes, on all items, unless I am stateside for more than 48hrs. Then I am allowed I think, $200 worth duty free. By the time you pay for gas, meals, motel's, its not worth it. You can usually get away duty free for purchases under $20.

Who said we had free trade? :?

12gaguy--Promo(same loading data as Red Dot) is $74 for 8 lbs and Nobel Sports primers are $79 for 5000 at a lot of the larger shoots here in the states. I believe you could load up the wife and kids for a fun weekend and save a few bucks. Arent each of them allowed the $200 duty free?

Good point! I could probably talk my son in to letting me use up his duty free $'s buying components, but the wife....now that's another story! :D

I should make a run down to Evergreen, I believe that is where some of the bigger shoots are held in Washington state. Any other big shoots in Wash. state?
