I acquired 1500 FGM Paper hulls last week.

I've never loaded them before and have only seen one PB load in the Lyman manual.

My question(s) is basically are there any "Rules" about paper hulls when reloading them? Can you load 'em like FGM Plastic? Certain wads that don't work or work? Large Payloads? Number of loadings? How do you tell when it's done?

I mainly plan on sticking to 1oz and 1 1/8oz loads.

With Paper hulls and PB powder there shouldn't be any recoil at all

Thanks

If you get 1200 fps out of them, you will feel it like a 1200 fps shell.

Of course the best wad is the 12C1, which is no longer made and was the paper standby forever, next go with the 12S3 or 12S0, but I imagine a Gualandi would seal better. Not to worry, not enough to tell.

I use a 6 point spindex crimp and have it marked with white paint where a star section is, I line that mark up with the previous section crimp and they look as new.

When you see pinholes start where the brass meets the paper, let them fly on that round.

They are bigger internally than a GM, but the data will work, they are closer to the size of the Federal Game load hulls.

If you are loading on a MEC, the resizer collet may crease the hull slightly where it closes to the top, it really doesn't hurt anything but if it bothers you, you can either get a "paper collet" from MEC, or use a die grinder to open up that upper section of the collet. Either way the collet will need to be removed----that part doesn't do anything, anyway.

Throw them away, they rank right up there with the new AAs! Personaly I hate them! I've loaded enough paper hulls in the old days that I really don't care to do it any more! Too many reasons for me to go into right now!

You can get one or two loadings out of them, but watch out after that. The hull can separate from the base, which can be a nuisance in a breakopen, and a potential disater in an autoloader. Having said that, I still wish I could find a steady reliable supply, because no other hull I have tried patterns as uniformly in either of my shotguns.
