Hey,

I'm getting tired of dealing with FFLs that are non-responsive, no-it-alls, shady, etc. I'm thinking that for $200 it would just be worth it to get my own FFL so that I can take advantage of the good deals I find in auctions. What the heck, maybe I can start selling a few guns and set up a retirement business.

So, any horror stories out there about getting an FFL. Does the ATF show up in the middle of the night pounding on your door demanding to see your storage facilities?

I would be interested as well. I am in NorCal and finding a low cost FFL is getting tougher and tougher. If I only provided the services to friends, family and my local club members I would be more than happy assuming the horror stories are not to horrifying!

From what I am hearing, it is not too bad but here in California (I'm outside LA) you have to get some ste elegibility certification plus a local business license and a state resale number. Sounds like extra paperwork and additional fees (at least $150/yr to the state).

I called my local ATF office and they sent out an applicaiton and some other documents for the state of California.

I thought they, being the ATF or whomever runs the reins had passed some rules about having an actual store front with posted hours? I guess you can do that in some residential areas, but I seem to recall that they had added the regs to thin the number of FFLs out there.

Just an update. I have sold a few guns and have not made much money but I do it because I like it and have no overhead. It seems to be working out and the more I sell at good prices the better my name spreads. The only bad thing is handgun shipping and handling. You can only get them next day air and it cost $$$$. It is hard to sell them at a good price with having to pay that shipping and in my case I can't afford to get a large inventory and hope someone wants to buy it. buy the way anyone want a north american arms .22 mag revolver w/ holster grip. I bought 2 because someone wanted one and the shipping was the same for 1 or 2 now I have an extra and I already carry one myself. I have to take every chance to advertise.
