I see that there are many outfits out there who offer classic shotguns that are professionally restored for sale (Parker, L.C. Smith, Ithaca, A.H. Fox etc). Even though some of these restorations are genuinely beautiful works, how impactive is the restoration on the guns ability to appreciate as a collector?

Pretty, freshly restored guns attract some buyers....but not the serious collectors. Restoration usually shuts down real collector value appreciation. Original condition trumps restored, period.

Restoring or buying a restored gun to use and enjoy is a great thing to do, but don't expect to recover the cost of a restoration or sell at the price point of a similar unrestored gun in original high condition.
