Can someone help me with identifying which Fiocchio hulls I have?
I have about 1000 Fiocchi hulls in my possession in execellent once-fired condition. I am a bit confused about the recipes and base wads. Most of the recipe books list 2 groups of data for Fiocchi hulls: 1) referred to as Target Hull (Purple) with high basewad; 2) all others with low basewad. I don't know how to tell whether I have low or high basewad. The depth of all the hulls measures 2 3/8".
The hulls are almost translucent, a very light blue or purple, low brass and are all labeled as Fiocchi with one of the following lables on the side: Trap, Low-Recoil, Spredder, or Whiterhino. Because of the color, I think I have the Target hulls, but am not certain. Are any of the high basewad hulls similar to purple in color?
CAn anyone offer assistance? Thanks.

James,
Thanks for the feedback on the Fiochhi hulls. Can I assume from your answer that the hulls that I have that are labeled as "Trap", "Low-Recoil", or "Spredder" (all of these are the translucent light purple color) are the so-called Target Hulls (thus high basewad).
The hulls listed as "Whiterino" look identical in every way to the above listed hulls. Would they also be Target?
Are any of the "Hunting" (high basewad) hulls purpleish in color and is this the most obvious way to idenitify Target hulls?
Again, Thanks for the useful info. It really helps to have a knowledgeable person to provide advice.

Charlie.....To the best of my knowledge, all the hunting loads and hulls have the low base wad (7mm). You will note from Ballistic Products catalog, that all the hulls (in all gauges) have the 7mm basewad. Some do have various brass heights. "Reloading For Shotgunners" does have some loads for the Fiocchi Purple Target. These purple hulls should not be confused with the hunting hulls that are brown-purple with a 7mm basewad and 16mm brass. Your purple hulls would make excellent target and bird loads (up to 1 1/8 oz). If you tell me what powder you use, I will pull out some loads from the book for you.
As for the others????????
I will state that we use only the 7mm basewad/16mm brass Fiocchi hulls for all of our load development. It is one of the few that give honest case head expansion. Fiocchi does not use any regrind plastic, as others do, in their hulls. WW seems to have cheapen up their hulls with regrind and some splits are showing up.
Best Regards, James
